came across this article tonight. It's on a maglev prototype and it's possible uses to build a new railway network in the USA. Top speeds of 300MPH and runs nearly silent.
Shanghai China has a very small system in place already, but it's just a 20 mile track from the airport to the city-center.
other bullet-train systems (still using wheels):
Japan - Tokyo to Fukuoka City: 186MPH
France - Paris to Marseille: 199MPH
USA - Boston to Washington and other Accela networks: 150 (though too many curves, so average speed is 86MPH)
anyone ever been on a bullet-train before? I hear they make you feel woozy if you're onboard for too long, haha. I took the Accela from Boston to New York City once and I hear them go by quite often. They are pretty quiet, but I wish they would go faster. My trip took 7 hours in total, for something I could have driven in about 5 or 6. When I go to Japan next year, I plan on taking the Shinkansen at least once. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
i've been on the Shinkansen in Japan and China's Maglev, which was an absolute thrill. I have video of the train reaching top speed.
personally, i think it's about damn time the US started something like this. airfare is only going up, but fast access to the corners of the country are still an important aspect of our society. pending teleportation, i think mag-lev trains are the next best option. _________________

I'm more worried about highway traffic. Roadways are jam-packed pretty much 24 hours a day now. Gasoline prices aren't helping much, either. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)

i wished they have utilized this mode of transportation long ago...
This would be nice if they have used maglevs in time for the winter olympics... saves vancouver a whole lot of headache with an already bad traffic volume... _________________
