I had to get 4 stitches yesterday, so I wanted to ask you guys something. Has anyone here ever gotten stitches before? If so, how many, what happened, and what will you do different next time (if it was an accident)?

I'm stitch-free so far in life... which is odd since I'm always doing dangerous stuff and getting bumped and scratched. I haven't broken any bones... only sprained my ankle once... I was shocked at how badly it hurt. Usually I'm pretty graceful, like when I trip/fall (which happens often, heh heh), but one time I put too much pressure on my ankle to catch myself and twisted it funny. I was fine after like 5 minutes.

I should be a stuntman... those guys make good money ^___^

what happened to you? shovel to the back of the head? Shocked

I've hurt myself quite a few times because of my acrobatic martial arts hobbies I suppose. I broke my hand once because a punch I threw was a bit off, the knuckle of my right 'pinky' is about 1cm (~1/3in) further back than it should be. While the ordeal had me forced to use my left hand for anything and everything for about a month and a half, it's kind of cool showing off to people by using chopsticks with my left hand! ^.~

I've sprained various parts of my body an uncountable number of times..."Hard to walk for 2 weeks" sprains.

Uhm...Niether of those required stiches though...

Only times I've required stiches was when I removed a ***** (Can't remember the medical name for it) from my neck, and...

This one time (at band camp?)...
I messed up a move real bad, ending with my left kneecap being what's best described as 'partially shattered'...It hurt...Alot. ^.^;

Anyways, after having a few surgeries done on my leg, I'm able to function normally, though I can't even hope to sit in Seiza or in any similar position, as I don't have any ligaments left in my left knee. Only 'damper' I got is a scarry tissue the surgeon made by intentionally damaging the mucous membrane in the knee.

Ironically, all the injuries I've had, I got on foot, despite having driven into trees and had various other stuff happen while driving offroad with my bike! O''o;

Well I recieved some stiches down the side of my right hand. The scar is practically on the side of my wrist, so its pretty low. As to what happened, my hand went through a glass window. <.<

Besides that...I've broken my left pinky finger because of football. I didn't even notice it until I got to the side lines and saw that I couldn't move it and that it was at an akward position.

Lol no. I tripped over a 3ft brick wall and busted my had at the corner of it. Suprisingly it didn't hurt at all. I just thought it would be a bump there, until blood started too drip from it. Then they said I would need stitches, in which I replied "Ah, crap".

But I did learn a lesson: Go around, not across the wall.

Ah... I got stitches when I was really young, a shattered glass coke bottle incident. Luckily, it only required a year or so of keeping my left wrist in a soft cast and without too much movement.

Plus, it was when I was younger, though I distinctly remember not feeling any pain. My parents, I'm sure, felt a lot of distress over it though. *sweatdrops*

Oh... I think that took about 100+ stitches and while I don't remember that part, my mom told me once that she distinctly remembered that I was in a LOT of pain then. Ouchies.

Well... no other accident's required me to get stitches and I've never broken a bone in my body, surprisingly. Still, I try to stay relatively safe. Wink

well.......as far as i know i dont have any stitches in me body. but i have tons of scars in my head xD

i just remember how i got 3 of them.

1.- in kindergarden i was playing on a swing and the bully of the class came to me and said "get out of it", i said "no", he said "get out!", me "nope". then he grabbed a stone (the whole playground was full of stones) and being behind me threw it to my head. i cryed and bleed

2.- i was jumpig on my moms mattress with my cousin, i fell and my head hit the corner of a piece of furtinure. i cryed and bleed

3.- i was getting out of a school (where a church event was held) through a metal gate with a lil door (you had to bend a bit to pass). i took a run up to jump through the door and i hit the top part of my head with the metal frame of the door. i put my hands on my head as a reaction and kept on walking. then i felt my hand a bit wet, saw it and it was painted with blood. i was like "aaaah damn! i broke my head again" and started laughing

when i got back home i asked my dad: "do you have alchohol? i broke my head and i dont want the wound to infect" my dad looked at my head and laughed with me. then my mom saw it and went "oooooooh my babyyyy!!!! what happened!!!!" and i laughed harder xD

i totally forgot to bend to go through the door and this happend last year xD

but thats it, no stitches

Stiches aren't really needed on parts of your body that you don't move often or gets otherwise strained. E.g. On your neck you would get stiches more often than on your torso, because of your neck moving around alot more than your torso. O.o;

I suppose Usagi Undertaker (AKA Angel_Arms) may have had a few stiches here and there...'cuz of forgetting to flap his wings when peeking on the girls' changing room on the third floor. We'll see if he comes around! ^.~

*I got a feeling I'm going to have it coming for me soon...* ^.^;

I guess I'm an exception because I have stiches on my neck. I had a small tumor on my neck so I had to get that removed. I don't know how many stiches I have because obviously I can't see them and I never asked because I was only in the 2nd grade when I got them.

Actually it's on the first floor meaning there's no need for me to fly ... I mean! THERE IS NO PUBLIC BATHS AROUND!!!

Anyways here's a simply little story. In gr.5 I was playing on the ice with my other peers and so I accidentally tripped and fell on someone. Unfortunately I was rather heavy then so he ended up needed a few stitches I think on the side of his head just it was bleeding rather bad. And to add in the misery, I fell on his leg and kinda twisted his ankle unintentionally. Nyoro~n

Ooooo, battle scars!!

Let's see, this first one I don't think really counts but is relevant. I have about 13-15 stitches on my ankle and screws in it because I was born with a club foot.

I had about 4-6 in my tongue because I had a break down and tried to cut off my own tongue. Neither cutting nor stitching hurt much. I did have a problem trying to eat with the stitches, though. I kept tugging on them when I chewed Crying or Very sad

Non-stitch related injuries:
I broke my collar bone when I was in 5th grade, I believe. I was running, tripped over my untied shoe lace and literally slid over a speed bump. I cried, my friend laughed...

I was in traction for a few days because I missed a step and hit that bump on the back of everybody's neck. I don't remember that much. Just the actual fall (not the impact) and crying in the car.

I also have a bunch of small scars from work. I really shouldn't be handling sharp objects...

i think i might have the Darwin Award for obtaining stitches, but in my defense, i was young. my parents had just bought my brother and i a TMNT action figure (i think it was raphael) that transformed into a firetruck (so this must have been early 90's). being brothers barely 1 year apart in age, we loved to compete. in this case, the competition was to see who could transform the toy in the shortest amount of time, in the most uncomfortable positition possible. so, genius's that we were, we decided the appropriate place was a large, hardshell suitcase.

tl;dr, my brother slammed the case shut before i could duck my head all the way in and cut a gash in the side of my head with the latch. i had to get 4-5 stitches and had a large white scar where hair wouldnt grow for the next couple of years.

sidenote: we were called to dinner right after the incident, and i neither felt pain, nor that anything had gone wrong at all (aside from being bumped in the head). and no one realized i even had a wound until much later because although my hand was red from touching my head, we had pizza for dinner and thought it was just sauce.
