Yes, the manga is good (I own Vol 1, 3-6) but the anime is not. This is based on story, plot & characters.
Or maybe it is the manga is too good compared to the anime adaptation. |

I'll admit it. Proud owner of tanks 1-7 (Because buying them in Japan is much cheaper than buying in the states... This was one of those series that I would have read earlier it it wasn't for the fact that it is so pricey.)
I have had nothing but fun with the manga. The pacing, art, plot, characters are great fun. It is also set for a certain number of tanks and will not be dragged out like so much other manga that becomes popular. It will end this year. So says the author anyway at the end of tank 7.
As for the anime I watched the first few episodes and in that time they were able to turn this series into another FMP Season 1 where there are good points but you can't help but sit back and scratch the back of your head going "They could have done half the work and made it better..."
The anime pacing spoils the fun of the plot and the surprises just don't seem as well timed as the anime which seemed (To me anyway) to end up falling over its own feet trying to get everything out in the open in the first 5-6 episodes.
I never did watch past epsode 5-6 and I honestly don't feel like I am missing the end of the world or anything either.
Verdict - Manga proves that it tastes great and is less filling than the anime. |

i guess i'll just lay off the anime then... seems like anime adaption of manga/novels/etc don't usually turn out too well huh? |

Most adaptations don't turn out well.
But in my opinion Fullmetal Alchemist does it well. However they have another 20+ episodes to prove me wrong |

Heh... I'd take the offer if it wasn't for the fact that my Spring break is almost up and I will be back to the grind of a 6hr plus school day here in a couple days... That and I already have a project I would like to do myself but that is just visions of stupidity running through my head.
On top of that if ADV picked up the rights for a R1 Chrno release I wouldn't be surprised if their Manga line gets the rights to the manga. Who knows.
As for ep 4 leaving on a cliffhanger, wait until they drop you at the end of the 7th tank!!! (Chapter 48) Murder I tell ya!

While that is a good general rule, there are exceptions. I also think it depends on how much changing to the storyline you can deal with before becoming angry. :P You may want to try a few ep. to test the waters for your own personal tastes and go from there. That is usually the safest bet.
If done correctly though anime can capture the manga very well and even do things that the manga didn't. (I.E. Azumanga Daioh) I guess it all ends up on the producer and directors love for the series and if it is already a done/finished series or not. |

oh and about rosette's brother, how can he use the horns if he's not a demon? it kind of just magically sticks to his head and he turns evil. |

Well... the main power source of the demons lie in their horns. This power is supplied(linked to) Pandemonium, Queen of Demons. (Note: This is a plot point on the revolt and why Aion became hornless).
Aion gave Joshua the horns ala grafting (sticking it into the sides of Joshua's head). In turn, the essence of the horns becomes a parasite, bonding with the host and infecting him. |

Well if it makes you feel any better, the Japanese tanks for Chrno Crusade run 900 Yen a pop. On the other hand they are a bit bigger than standard size and do come with the color pages. Sure you can find them used (But still in excellent condition) at some used book shop but you are still looking at 500 yen or so for this series. (Due to the anime boosting the popularity.)
What kept me off the series to start with was I didn't want to pay 15 - 16 bucks at my local Kinokuniya for a series I had never even seen or heard much about. |
