The Catholic Church actually has made a statement regarding cannibalism.
In the 1970's there was a plain crash in the Andes Mountains. Rescuers did not know where the plain was, and so the rescue mission had failed. Without food or clean water in the sub-zero temperatures, the passengers began to die off.
Some of the passengers then made up their minds to eat their companions who had already passed and were preserved in the snow. Those who refused to resort to cannibalism all died.
More than two months later they were finally rescued. At first, the passengers were under harsh scrutiny from the general public because they thought it was wrong to eat another human being.
The Catholic Church then stepped forward and made a statement claiming that the rescued passengers committed no sin by eating the dead because
a:they were already dead
b:it would be considered a sin to let oneself die when a means of survival, that does no harm to others, is obtainable
although some may disagree, that was the statement declared by officials of the Catholic Church. Although whether you personally believe it is morally wrong is your own choice.[/b]
Doesn't make it any less weird, of course. I'd rather avoid eating other people, but my mom's already said that if we're all stuck on a desert island, and she happens to be dead for whatever reason, she'd rather we eat her body than starve. _________________ The pen is mightier than the sword

Yep, that's about my view on it, too.
