Do you think that computers and Mobile Phones have made us worse at talking to one another , not better ? I know there's a thread about "internet improving our lives or not ", hence just wondering about it in a much broader or general stand.
For me, I consider it a "give-and-take" situation

Some say that these inventions, while increasing efficiency and convenience, lost "sincerity" "formality" and became to 'take things for granted ".
So, just wondering what you guys think

to start things off, machines have retarded the need for human congregation because machines allow humans to act as both as integrated and independent cells through the magic of networking. there is a reduced need for meeting because we have more control over everything due to automation. people have become more insociable because we have so much access to everything already. people used to group together because they needed the numbers for a successful hunt. people used to build farms as a community because no single man could possibly build the entire structure by himself. what changed? people. people and technology. people specialized into different fields so that you need only one rancher to feed thousands. you need only one plumber to fix hundreds of houses. all technology ever done was it's singular purpose - to make things more efficient.
another problem commonly associated with technology is insociability. because of the easy access and availability of communication technology, people talk less with one another. some rather forgo physical meeting for virtual exchanges with others across the net. afterall, on the net, you represent yourself in a almost god-like alter ego, knowing that what you say ultimately does not amount to any change in your real life due to the protection of internet animosity. people on the net, if not the majority, will express and act differently than real life. sometimes it's a more honest speech, sometimes more deceptive, but ultimately, it generates a gap between real human interaction because of its substitutability.
i don't think it's really a matter technology making people of lose sincerity, formality or ignorance but much more dependent on human nature. it might just be a social transition and a conflict between traditional beliefs being challenged by newer ones. after all, whose to say whether technology makes life better or worse without first contemplating what makes life good in the first place?

of all i think that computers and cellular devices do make it easier to talk to one another but its really not making it easier if u talk to them daily in say school or work... its what happens in the persons life that really change that like say someone moves alot and has enough time to make friends just to lose them cause they have to move away. it becomes hard on the individual so they may turn to the computer/cellular device to make friends that will always be there as long as that computer/cellular device is online. _________________ Want advice DONT WORK AT WALMART... With mobile phones, I think what we're losing is time for peace and quiet. Being out of the house meant you were unavailable... now people can hunt you down 24/7 no matter if you're in the office, in your living room, or at the mall.
As for speaking better with each other... TXTing and 13375|>33|< surely have changed the way we talk to others. I for one, think it's clever and interesting, not 2 mention useful when I want 2 write sumthing fast.
I think how you speak with others relates to the type of conversation you want to have. I only call my friends when I want to have a lengthy chat with them. If I want to just get a quick message out, it is so much easier to TXT "leaving 4 theater, c u in 10" than it is to call and end up in a longer conversation. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
well, i dare say that it does impact others. i have a friend who rants a lot in IRC but when met in person, is a non-talkative, passive kinda guy. when his finger's on the keyboard, he lets all his feelings loose and type anything he ever wanted.
for me, i use my computer for chatting to save money. if i use my phone, i tend to speak a LOT and my credit keeps falling down the drain. plus, my fellow university colleagues all use the same medium to converse (an IRC), hence, money is saved and you can chat all you want without holding back. even SMSing uses lotsa money if it is sent to other telcos...
plus, the way im talking now is a wee bit different than i used to. i started using the word "LOL" in my dialogues. well, i mostly use that if im being sarcastic ie saying "lol" in a dull way...
oh yeah.. sometimes i use the word "swt" as well~ lol... _________________
