Creating .GIF files out of scences in anime

Just wondering,how do I create .gif files out of scenes in anime ?
(like the file below , for example)

There are programs out there where you can import a clip and it will show you the entire strip of frames. You can then remove the unwanted frames and export as GIF. I once used Ulead GIF Animator to create some quick GIFs. The one currently on my sig was done by actually taking individual screenshots and stringing them together. That was no fun at all.

anyway, what about Fireworks or Flash ? do they work too ?
(my anime files are .avi btw )

You could also do a screen capture (Alt + Print Screen) and paste it into whatever application you use to create the .gifs. Alt+Print Screen takes a capture of the window in focus while Alt+Shift+Print Screen captures the entire display. Some things can't be captured in a screen shot, though.

It's an old and tired way of doing things, but if nothing else works this is an easy alternative.
