Heh? oO

I've never heard "excuse you", but it sure sounds rude. You use "excuse me" if You did (or are about to do) something bad or inconvinient fot others (I think). f You say "excuse you" it's like saying that he/she did something bad and you're offended by it.

"You're welcome". Well, this varies a lot. It can be too polite (hypocritical) for some people. On the other hand some other people consider it rude not to say it. In my case I try to be polite with everyone, especially if I don't know them (like here on this forum, You may have already noticed it Smile). So I do say it. But I try to remember and not to use it when speaking to mangaddict_reborn. Wink

I've gotta agree with the excuse you thing. It just pisses me off. It's like they're saying you have done something wrong and they're the judge and jury on the matter. It's just sick and wrong. Frickin people thinking that they're better than everyone over a sneeze. God it's irritating.

OKAY, let me rephrase the "your welcome" thing

If someone that's doing their job says you're welcome, it's annoying.
Take a waiter for example. If I say thanks, and he says' you're welcome, I find that annoying, don't you?

Especially if someone asks for help, which can be embarrasing as it is, I don't know why but saying you're welcome is the WORST.

I think I don't understand this 'your welcome' thing because I'm Hungarian and our customs differ. I mean that these expressions can be translated, but the words we use aren't the same.

We say 'Köszönöm' ~ 'Thank you'. This is almost the same.
The reply is either 'Szívesen' or 'Nincs mit' ~ 'Your welcome'. But these expresions are much closer to something like 'Gladly' or 'Nothing to thank for'.

I still can't grasp the logic behind the expression 'your welcome'...

Actually, isn't it 'You're welcome' Question

Refer to the first post. Simple typo.

( °O°)<AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

i think i get it!!!

the whole phrase is arrogant and spoiled.

you answer "you are welcome". "welcome" like allowing him to get into somewhere, perhaps your circle of friends, your house, in general is the action of giving the person who thanked you a sort of permission.
someone compliments you for helping and you allow that person to do smthn, just coz and only coz the person gave you a compliment. it is annoying! oh God! i get it!!! but why? its been always like that, and teachers around the world teach that those are good manners, but they are not!!!

in spanish is the same case as in hungarian, we reply "it was nothing". a humble answer, but in english is the complete opposite. why???

I think you are looking to deep into it. You're welcome means the same thing as no problem, or it was nothing when used in most contexts. It is just a weird phrase which you can't really translate over. Like how in spanish it doesn't make sense to me that you would use tengo hambre instead of estoy hambre. I mean in english that translates to be "I have hunger", yet i would say I am hungry. Its just a phrase which seems weird to people from outside of the culture, but means the same thing. There is probably some etymological roots to it, which i should probably look up sometime. I'm guessing it is something like you are welcome (to happiness/whatever I gave you, physical or not) as in you can take it, it is for you.

Excuse you, however is definitely meant to be rude, as, like others have said, it means the other person is saying you did something wrong and is trying to put you down. It is not an acceptable, positive phrase in english.

As for what a douche is, the dictionary says it is a stream of water which is used for medical or hygienic purposes using a pump of some sort. It can be used for a vagina. I think... I looked it up a while ago randomly. Anyway it has grown to be slang and is more like someone who is a jerk, e.g. that guy just took that kids lolipop, what a douche.

Personally, I think that as long as one is sincere in what's being said, then it's all right. Nothing wrong with sincere politeness/courtesy.
Well, thats what me think.
(
*pls dont call me a douche, whoever that disagrees with my view ,though Crying or Very sad *)
