Meh. . . The guilt passed. I guess it's 'cuz I'm new here.
I don't think lol's and rofl's are banned from gaming. I do the same thing as a native speaker, especially with MP RTS matches. If I'm playing a shooter I usually use a mic, but I think mics are a little much for RTSs.
Could you guys make a couple recommendations for good 'slice of life' Anime? Not necessarily the most entertaining, but some which I could learn the most from? _________________ "Listen, when you're hurting someone don't think of the pain that he feels. Only concentrate

Mh...Lucky Star, School Rumble, Minami Ke, Welcome to the NHK...All of those are very entertaining, and give a good look into the daily lives of normal people. Those are basically the ones I can think of right off the bat, I'll try to think of more. ^.^; _________________ 秘密ã?¨ã?¯å¯†ã?‹ã?«éš ã?—ã?¦äººã?«çŸ¥ã‚‰ã?ªã?„事を言ã?†ã?®ã?

eh.. welcome to the NHK is more of a case study on one specific subculture of modern japanese otaku (fanboy). it's still a really good watch.
i'm always terrible at naming shows off the top of my head, so i'll go through what's currently on my comp.
bokura ga ita - high school romance. watching these and recognizing patterns and similarities between them in the character interactions is a decent lesson, generally. the more harem oriented usually stray away from normal interactions, so don't take those too much to heart.
hataraki man - gives a nice glimpse at the japanese working class (editors at a magazine company, in this case).
Koutetse Hyaku Monogatari (aka Requiem from the Darkness) - the first 8-9 episodes feature plots based on popular japanese myths and legends. a nice show if you want to learn a little about that.
Hikaru no go - it's mostly about the game Go and the characters who play it, but you can watch the fringe characters to get a glimpse at how normal people view those that deviate from the normal path (hikaru's mother)
you can also try to dig up some historical shows. Rurouni Kenshin: trust and betrayal (samurai x, in north america) does a good job portraying proper social interactions when kenshin isn't out owning face. _________________

NHK is indeed focused around a very specific subculture, however it gives a very good look into that, not too uncommon, subculture. ^_^ _________________ 秘密ã?¨ã?¯å¯†ã?‹ã?«éš ã?—ã?¦äººã?«çŸ¥ã‚‰ã?ªã?„事を言ã?†ã?®ã?

@ Roppon & ddog
Thank you kindly for your recommendations. I'll be sure to check them out when I get payed at the end of the month.
As an aside, I've begun learning the Japanese syllabaries since most of my knowledge of the written language is in Romaji. Additionally, I've begun studying Kanji. While it's confusing at first, the culture behind the language is slowly starting to make itself apparent. I've also found a friend interested in studying with me as well as a couple mentors (one male with somewhat limited knowledge and one female with fluent knowledge). I hope that in the future I may be able to help fellow otakus in training.
Maybe that's just the Aquarian in me talking. Always thinking about the future. . . _________________ "Listen, when you're hurting someone don't think of the pain that he feels. Only concentrate
