according to this article, 16.4% of all XBox360s sold so far have died.

http://www.gamedaily.com/articles/galleries/xbox-360-failure-rate-over-16-percent/

Even in the survey they have running, a scary 37% of the 27,000 poll-takers reported their systems being brought back in, with another 9% saying they've experienced at least one problem or another.

What are your experiences? How often do you use your's?

Like people, game consoles must come and go at a certain point. We've seen it with the NES, Dreamcast, blahblahblah, and now the 360 with their RROD. The day I laugh on the inside is when all my friends realize that you must not buy consoles when it hits release. The only reason you should do that is if you plan on selling it immediately or sometime in the very near future for profit. For Haruhi's sake, if you do plan on playing, be patient and wait until they fix those hardware errors.

I've also heard the Wiis have begun to suffer from Blue Line of Death. Look out, Wii-users, you're next.

meh! im so used to see my console die. i had my PS2 dead for almost a year.
i also burned my NES back in the days.

i agree with v-boi, theres no use buying smthn when its just released. price is higher, you have to deal with lines, and the companies always come up with a better version later. the PS case for instance.

whats that blue line of death you talking aboot vb??

I made a mistake, it's not 'blue line' but instead its 'blue light'.

There's not much to explain about the blue light of death, is just the same thing as the 360's red ring, but for the Wii.

I think the older-gen consoles were built to last. My NES worked for probably a good decade, and probably 5 years each for my Sega Genesis, N64 and Gameboy.

Problems I had were with a GameCube I bought died about a month after I had it and a PS2 controller I had crapped out on me about a year after I had it... I forgot it was under warranty and just sat on it for like 3 months. By the time I realized it, it was too late.

I agree with the idea that it's better to wait. I'm not really a hardcore gamer, so I don't salivate over the next "big thing" for months to come. The only series I've rushed out to get was Grand Theft Auto. When IV comes out, that's when I'm going to have to decide which nextgen to get.

I have the halo 3 special edition and it goes ok at the momment.

Hope it will last for 2 more years at least...

I only have had the hardware error (1 red light of 360). I guess it was due to the USB Memory stick I used back then.

at least microsoft's warranty should last long enough for people with busted units to replace them (I think it was three years long(?))..

but I'm surprised this still happens today, as the X360 has been in the market for sometime already.

That's true. Although those replaced Xbox 360 could still possibly be one of those 16.4% that die.

Which actually reminds me, NES and any other cartridge reading consoles do break down. However they are more easy to repair since they don't use laser readers. Heck, I fixed my old nintendo just last summer, and while I was at it, I even spray-painted the skin GOLD. It still has problems playing Commando, though. Confused

ha ha i hate the xbox 360 ive had at least two or three within the time span that its been out... within the first month they usually fry out. the rrod needs to be fixed badly if microsoft expects to continue thriving cause not many people are gonna buy a system that will fry out. but since then i i have sold the 360s and moved on to a ps3 that hasnt died since ive had it for 2 or 3 months now XD sony is much better

ps. i heard from a friend that when the rrod occurs its where the 360 just melts the sauder on the board so its really easy to fix o.o but i wouldnt know i got my ps3 before then
