Making little kids mature is a common character attribute (in books and movies) that has been used for the exact reason as I described above. In all likelihood, that was their intention. You're not giving the writers enough credit; they're not writing some hack piece just for the sake of doing it.

Episode 4

There is a lot that is wrong with this show. From the plot, Shinkurou needs to get a brain check if he is so unobvservant as to let a little girl trail him all the way from his apartment... Yayoi and Benika. How stupid was it to let Murasaki just trail him like that. And if you are watching, why not intervene sooner, or at least clue the brainless Shinkurou in to the fact that he is being followed.

The bone blade thing is just stupid though. No other way to say it. Blocking bullets with it.

On the other hand though, there were also moments of humor. The cleaning/washing sequence. I laughed when I saw that Murasaki had washed the remote. Wonder if it still works.

Yeah, especially as this is what, the third time she's left his apartment without him knowing?

Although I have a feeling it's supposed to be that way, as Benika apparently has some mysterious reason for letting him goof up.

i can within a reasonable degree of doubt that the translation (or use of the terminology) of 'dispute mediator' is inaccurate because shinkurou does anything BUT mediate. when you call in a mediator, it is supposed to be 3rd party and neutral. i therefore submit that naming shinkurou as a 'dispute mediator' is grossly inaccurate because in no way is he mediating. you can't call THIS mediating when a) the 'mediator' represents one party and b) is entirely biased and has a one-sided agenda. you can't represent one party and mediate for that same party. THAT MAKES NO SENSE.

and why the bloody hell would you even try diplomacy when you know it's going to fail? you lose the preemptive strike oppurtunity if you sit down to have tea and biscuits.

also...i don't fucking care what, i won't accept intuition as a legitimate reason when the safety of a little girl, let alone an organization. why would any rational person send in a child with no charisma, filled to the brim with incompetency to 'negotiate' in hostile enemy-infested areas with no back-up? even if you know that he has some strange other-worldly power that allows him to win in a fight, there must be better agents suited to these situations. resorting to violence everytime is a sledgehammer hint that something is wrong. and if you know it's going to be a brawl, don't bother negotiating.

and about the child-stalking, i can understand the child going unnoticed (a child's footsteps are lighter and shinkurou could have been preoccupied) but what the hell was the other female agent thinking? i mean for the love of peanuts, she KNOWS that it's a yakuza hideout and she KNOWS that the lil girl is gonna follow shinkurou. why did she not intervene quicker? or better yet, why not restrain murasaki in the beginning? [/spioler]

episode 4 just dragged down my opinion of the show all together. now it's starting resemble nonsensical trash.

I don't know, I still really like this show. I don't even notice a lot of the things that seems to bother you guys.

The whole dispute mediator thing is obvious meant to be an ironic title. I don't believe it's a translation mistake. Also frankly going into a negitiation with guns blazing is never a good idea, even if the other side happens to be yakuza.

Benika used intuition as an excuse. Later in episode four she explained that the main reason she wanted Murasaki with Shinkuru was that they had some things in common and were likely to better understand each other and given Murasaki's unique background, it would be a lot easier for her to adjust to the real world with someone who can understand her.

Finally (and this is mostly speculation) but I think the reason Yayoi didn't interfer sooner was because she was ordered by Benika to not interfere unless absolutely necessary to save the child's life. Given the circumstances, that would make sense to me.

i think people are just angry that there was a form of "child abuse" in the show (i.e everyone's fav little girl getting smacked unconscious)

well if it brought about this kind of reaction from the viewers then i think it was a pretty "effective" episode. Cool

we were also shown that the guy had a traumatic childhood as well.. from what i can see hitting at the supposed plot holes from a reaction is kinda uncalled for, there are a lot of other shows with thinner character development and bigger plot problems imo.

like Faraz sed, i think there was enuff stuff in the ep to explain a few of those things.. as for the term 'mediator', there are alot of meanings to the word itself, that is to say that the word may not be the most exact translation -but it may also be a case that there is no 'exact' translation in english and that 'dispute mediator' is the closest they could think of.

they can call it intuition, you can call t crap, but what it really is some deus ex machina sort of way to have the damned series exist. Without him being somewhat stupid and irresponsible, certain plot and character development wouldn't exist, and without at least some reason to explain why they're paired up, you have no story. Besides, with the number of titles out there based on much more implausible situations (think about the number of series out just now that feature a sudden magical girl girlfriend appearance, whom, by the way, has no problems with nudity or fanservice), you have very little to complain about the author pretty much saying, "yeah, he's a pretty damned bad choice, but i had to give you at least some reason."

The focus of the series, thus far, seems to be about the interaction between Kurenai and Murasaki, rather than the work of Kurenai as a negotiator. I hope they keep it this way as much as they can. It's that that makes it unique, and me still watching.

He doesn't like fighting or using his powers, you can see it clearly from ep2. Another difference is, this job is from Ginko rather than Benika.

And also, he DID have the upper hand, he lost it when Murasaki comes into the picture.

EDIT:- wait a minute... this is his raison d'etre so far, to be strong or something, can't put it in words, so I would say that my statement above contradicts it. I guess the only thing left that this is a job from Ginko rather than Benika. And also, the situation is different from ep2, where I guess the thugs back then was not open to reasons, but this one does. At least, until Murasaki comes into the picture...

well, it works for her, why getting riled up over it? Sometimes, in busines, you have to follow your heart rather than your mind. And you forgot another thing, this job is from Ginko and not Benika. Benika only sent him to do the low-level ones like the ones in ep2.

Oh, and he also done the last thing in ep2. He didn't resort to negotiating, just "hello, sorry, have a punch or two".

she did a misjudgement, that I have to give. She was to watch them unnoticed though, so you can see her dilemma there...

and to bring me off hiatus after such a long time, I gotta salute you and this anime to be honest...

I think you mis-spelled "wildly" with an 'm' in that last sentence of yours, tabz.

That music was dreadful! Even after they'd started singing 'properly', it was still dreadful! It was worse than the random singing in Red Garden, that's how dreadful it was!

Still loved the ep, though...

the best part is, Yuuno's VA actually sings the ED, according to some sources

I was left with mouth gaping open, thinking "WTF had I just saw?" and a weird sensation to just... laugh out loud Razz
