in genera, women are more likely to have a lesbian/bi fantasy compared to men.
But to the shounen part and shoujo. I personally find Shounen by a mile more retarded especially if it's a harem, we got an average joe guy, whose more of a fool, who somehow gets the town's cutest or most popular girl(s) to fall in love with him for no apparent reason, well he probably helped her picking up her study books or something, of course she'll fall in love through that! ehhhh.
In shoujo they at least turn the average girl lead into a super hottie, when they put a dress on her, stylish her hair, and put on some make up. It's a giving they'll become really interesting by the ones who normally wouldn't pay attention to her if she looked just average, those being our super model guy, mr rich charming guy, the sporty charming guy, and the serious yet gentle guy, the childhood good friend, and of course the bad boy.
Seto no Hanayome and Da capo two good ways of showing how it can be made very great (SNH) and how it can be turned very stupid and rather lame (Da Capo). In the first beside having some of the most funny gags around, the average joe luckily "only" have two of the probably cutest girls in the world wanting him for a different reason, the girl who at some point wanna show how her perfect man should be, turns out to be 10 times more manly than our average joe guy, which makes it funny, along with him just suddenly turning into that guy for her.
Then there's Da Capo, an average Joe guy, who somehow gets loved by his cousin and his sister (not one but two times forbidden love?!) the school's most popular girl falls in love with him for some weird reason, he's in general a rather tool and doesn't even go out of the average joe custome once. He plays ping pong with the girls making it showed like he's "nice" to them all.
The Shoujo at least give them a good reason for the "hot guys" to fall in love with the average girl, when she blooms. While it's more likely for the girls to have some following them, than the other way around, then they put in the super model alike guys, to at least justify it. Also in Ouran the lead girl is quite strong and not easily taken by the "model guys", which is the very reason why they exactly would want to have her even more!
Shounen, are like the old 1930'-1950's movies "guy save girls, girls love guy". the personalities of one gender is almost always not realistic to any point.
Shoujo, is more modern, even when it's got too many of the "in a rollercoaster" types going on. Both genders have realistic personalities, it's almost like a soap drama at times.
Of course a lot more could be said, and so on, but yeah i prefer shoujo harem over shounen harem, with only few exceptions, mostly because of the personality, even if it's extraordinary types they put in, are more real and true.
Anyway i won't mind some girl to girl love in VK, hell it's more interesting with more playfields for Yuuki haha. _________________ [img:455:210:7a59a0d190]http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7981/smallversionkikiin9.jpg[/img:7a59a0d190]

Interesting views, yet I slightly disagree in some points.
First there are two types of males harems. One where the protagonist is average and one where he’s a damn loser. Both appeal to different yet similar markets. One is for regular hormones-full teenagers ( shuffle) and the others for hormones-full teenagers who happen to be losers
( Mahoromatic?) So the irrationals of why they chose him varies depending on the market. The first give reasons for why each girls fall in love with him , while in the latter the more irrational the better ( the idea a miracle happening keeps readers alive, i guess they think)
The latter ,if you see through its proposes, may hit you as deeply offensive. Thats why i think people may find more likely to stand for shojos harems as they grow. The insult is not as obvious and not towards them.
Yet , Shojo harems could be found insulting in some aspects, if you can see through, and if you are a girl. Girls in Shojo harems are cute and small-Ouran, Zombie loan , VK. ( or crazy, like in Yamato Nadeshiko- buts thats one of a kind) they are pretty of course, but only in the sense some ave joes aren’t "ugly" ( well, most of the times...) Compare them not to real life girls, but to their counterparts in the same anime ( tall and beautiful- except Goth lolis in Yamato... )
I will even dare to say that Harui is not even pretty. But then again its seems only the men in Ouran are allowed to be...
Its just the same exploitation, only it abuses on the emotional desires.
Its even more insulting when you realize most the guys are rich or aristocrats. Isn’t that calling the fans materialistic and shallow?
Both animes are about exploiting fantasies, it seems to me that shojo are more interesting because girls are more "complex".
We settle down just with sex and food- and that’s why 99% of the time one of the girls live with the average joe- to serve him a hot meal once he comes back of hanging with the other girls.
Girls.. well.. want to have fun... i guess.
The shounen part that gripes me is the obvious"ness" of how the ones who made it, either never have had any real contact with women in the situations they show, or it's made for boys/guys whose never had that. Also while on the rich part, in shounen the girls are rarely rich, or if they are, never really shows how rich they are, to a certain point.
They are mostly the typical girl next door, you'll never know if they earn more than you, why? Because it's a shounen an "inbuilt" instinct in men is to be "the ones who bring food on the table", it's possible a known thing that most men won't be too happy about his other half earning more than him, hehe. It's more like "the perfect girl" scenario that plays in the shounen universe, where she won't be materialistic and it's okay the guy just brings the food on the table.... pretty much boring.
In shoujo they touch it at the "ideal guy" but here it's about him having enough, besides looks and charms, money to shower her with gifts and clothes. This isn't always the case, there are often "the bad boy" or the charmer, whose just ordinary and just rely on their looks, charms, or brute strength to move forward.
But in some they make it certain that's not quite enough(money/charm/looks/strength), because here the girl ain't a "towel", she's more in control and that's more interesting. Sure there'll be a lot of "zombie girls", who'll be jealous and so on, because some likes to make their competition jealous. But in general those "zombie girls" are just there to "strengthen" the belief that our lead girl here, is pretty strong in her will and that she ain't just a "towel". Also the zombie girls are there to show how "awesome" these guys are after.
In shounen the girls are rarely strong willed, mostly just "towels" and i hate "towels"..... In shoujo they are often strong, except the "zombie girls", they do show emotions but they are strong willed or become it and they aren't easily seduced like the "towels" or "zombie girls". Their personality isn't of some kind "maid", where they'll be saying "yes, master".
Bottomline is, in shoujo there'll be strong girls, where as in shounen they'll be rather weak.
So yeah i'll be cheering on Maria in VK and hopes she'll have her fun with them all.
Note: if you were wondering what i meant with "towel", it's like cleaning your hands in it and then throw it away, without a real thought. Someone you can play around with like "doodeling"(or whatever you call it) your hair. _________________ [img:455:210:7a59a0d190]http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7981/smallversionkikiin9.jpg[/img:7a59a0d190]

Episode 9 ~ Ami Koshimizu?? I certianly hope so xD
I thought Maria was going to be a whiny lil spoilt thing ~ but she's the evil pulling the strings sorta bi-atch ~ so this should be good (pretty sure her seiyuu is Ami Koshimizu ... I haven't checked to make sure yet ..haha I'm so biased).
I find it sorta funny how the Night class have their crew happening and everything's pretty peaceful and then she comes into the picture and it distorts it.
But yeah Vampire Knight definately moving along very nicely.
edit: I hang my head in shame ... it's Mai Nakahara (Mai from Mai-hime, Nagisa from Clannad) ... all in all ~ still good _________________ Get ready to vote for who you think is the Sexiest Anime Character!!
I have read a bit of the manga, although I stopped reading it since i wanted to wait for the anime to come out. I've got up to ep 8 but i shall wait till it is finished airing mainly cause i don't like to wait, and basically I'm just saying everything everybody else is saying ... some unoriginality but this series is very good in my opinion and you will enjoy this anime. just don't expect to be overly amazed with this (or any) anime or it will just ruin it for you. _________________ "ph34r t3h cute ones."--megatokyo
So far every episode has been great. And they are possible "the Anime", whose really get it 100% right with the background music to build up the deep scenes further that's such a rarity, and they even change the background music each episode, to fit a new topic, not the same one but still just as deep and perfect to create the atmosphere wanted.
You really know, when they are just fooling around, and when they get serious.
By a little mistake of interest i read a little about one character on wiki and caught too much just doing that. Very dangerous.... _________________ [img:455:210:7a59a0d190]http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7981/smallversionkikiin9.jpg[/img:7a59a0d190]

Aye, Maria sure is a woman who knows how to handle things hehe.... a toy boy here and a play toy there.
Can't wait till it really breaks loose with the whole plot of whose who and where they are heading towards.
Each episode can't come out fast enough. One of those where you should have found the anime after at least the first season was completed. x] _________________ [img:455:210:7a59a0d190]http://img243.imageshack.us/img243/7981/smallversionkikiin9.jpg[/img:7a59a0d190]
