anybody seen this one yet?
personally im not all that impressed, sure looks to be a good adventure story, however it does borrow a bit of ideas from past works.. but as they say, if you're gonna do a similar story at least make it better than the last.
sadly the animation was nothin great, at most just a little bit over the average(maybe it just had good lighting effects), but for ep1, looking at the way they rendered a couple of scenes, looks like theyre doing shortcuts very early on. also i noticed most of the scenes, the characters are always facing towards the left of the screen, not really a big concern, but if it was noticeable enuff(my attention was constantly dragged to the left), i get the feeling that the direction/director is a bit green. the constant panning of the "camera" left to right, up - down was really "boring" as well. there should be better ways to flesh out the scenes imo.
yep im a bit critical just for the first ep, but only because i really think that this kind of story was done before, and better done than what we are seeing now.
the way the characters move are also a bit awkward in some scenes, specifically during action movements.
so aside from a not so good animation viewpoint, questions about the story... the title is "Allison and Lillia" and we are shown the 2 main characters named Allison and Wil.. wtf.. o_O or is this guy Will a girl in disguise? and his/her real name is Lillia?
i really doubt they would come up with a better story that other flight/war anime like Last Exile, animationwise it doesnt even come close to it even tho Al&Lil are the new anime, it looks like its the one that is dated(it looks like one of em world masterpiece theater animes in some scenes, its not bad.. but its kinda old) if this were done some 15 years ago it would still be good during its year. take away the lighting effects and looking at the base animation frame for frame it looks pretty basic but even for a show with a small budget if they just managed the scenes right, the angles of the shots it would make it better.
still, its a pretty decent show i think, at least its got a story, and of course ill give it a few more eps, perhaps i might warm up to it as well and finish ti through. but on the onset im pretty sure that while it may have potential to be a good watch, it still is not any "better" than what else is already available out there. flight animes are one of the hardest to pull off imo, coz theres really this big expectation of seeing great scenes fleshed out in animation. _________________ [img:400:237:866f672f5a]http://www.geocities.com/bktabz/mari_boya.jpg[/img:866f672f5a]

Heh, yeah I flashed on Last Exile too when I watched this. Hope its as good or better then that one.
That was pretty funny though, Allison and Lillia, and then 1/3rd of the way through the first episode, we get new credits announcing the show as Allison and Wil. I laughed when I saw that. Looking forward to finding out who Lillia is. Heh, maybe Wil is into crossdressing.

indeed, looks like they have a different story to tell, its more like an adventure story now.., still im a bit concerned on how "easy" the characters have been. its like they just go with the flow without much resistance to the changes.. but just another thing, if they gonna do an "other world" setting, where the 2 major land seems to be divided by some river, i think they shouldve at least made different names for the months, coz definitely i think if its another world with a very different topography, ya need a "different" calendar. _________________ [img:400:237:866f672f5a]http://www.geocities.com/bktabz/mari_boya.jpg[/img:866f672f5a]

It's a quite nice show, it's probably quite underrated.
i agree. the animation isn't that good but the storyline makes up for it. also it is a change of scenery for most anime viewers since the really popular anime nowadays are normally action.
nah... ...the only thing similar to Last Exile is the theme of flying and the ol' European feel/setting. This is definitely different from Last Exile, be it the animation style, or colour.
Okay, Ive only watched ep1... looks pretty interesting... ...am hoping it will turn out good too
As for the crossdressing thingy, I wouldnt be surprised. Wil sounds kinda feminine anyway... ...

a land divided and two countries at war? the premise pretty much mirrors of last exile, but now we know that the direction the story is headed will be different. i dont really have high hopes for this tho, the characters are really typical as well. they seem to do what they're told easily enuff.. i kinda have a problem with that. i have a hard time accepting the story they are pulling if the conversations, dialouge and reaction of the characters aren't convincing.

yes, becoz Will's seiyu is a female, but she's also known for doing voices of male characters.. _________________ [img:400:237:866f672f5a]http://www.geocities.com/bktabz/mari_boya.jpg[/img:866f672f5a]

Thats the way it is for me too. In episode 3, when their flying away and Allison is crying. I know that was supposed to be a moment I felt misty myself, empathizing with her. But I didn't. Mostly I was just annoyed with how the story was going. That and thinking, ah another episodes over...

ah that...true...though its quite a common theme in many anime....

okay, just watched ep2...and Im starting to not like the anime... ....seems to be going downhill... ....and yeah, the reactions dont feel "real"...and so far the story feels "dry"....
i was more angry that she actually cried, up untill that moment she was the perfect female equaliant to indiana jones with a few rough edges but then that happend and i was like.... "huh!??"
It didn't fit that character personality, even though it was meant as an emotional moment.
Oh well i hope they straighten it up in next episode, i don't want her turned into some crybaby. Want the bold, rather reckless, talented pilot, not too scared of dangerous stuff, and a lil rough (thickheaded/stubborn) personality Allison displayed the first episodes.
But then again it's an anime made by a country that's still rather stiff on certain gender subjects, as you can see in many, if not all, animes.

So, what can I say about Episode 4. I guess the best word to sum it up is, Lame. Lets forget everything about tactics and aerial combat. Oh and physics, throw all that stuff out. If we actually involved physics then the whole dogfight would be impossible.
I was trying to think what would have made this a better episode. Let forget the lameass paint pellets, and instead assume that Allison shot down Ker rather then have him switch sides. And then shot down the other opponents. And to make this a bit better, lets have Allison and Wil change genders. That way Wil can be the girl whining about killing being bad, and oh no, don't shoot anyone down, even though they're trying to shoot down/kill you. About the only good point in this episode was when Wil actually shot the guy holding the gun. But then of course Wil showed his true colors and dropped his own weapon.
And the whole mural, end of the war silliness... The origin of the war doesn't particularly matter once there are martyrs. Though of course it can be an excuse to end it. Still to end the war just because ages ago some person painted a mural that might or might not have any relationship to actual fact. Thats just stupid.
Ah, I don't know, despite the art, I think 4 episodes is as far as I can go with this one. I just can't stand to watch something this idiotic any longer. Thanks Shinsen and others for Subbing it, but am gonna have to quit watching this one.

LOL, Molenir i fully agree with you, im stopping here as well...
the whole thing was utter stupidity... it almost seemed like a "cartoon" the way the story went.
that's it?the war is over? just like that? nandeyanen!? well for a while now i kinda had a feeling its gonna turn out like this, but ep4 was really something else.. its like a whole other level.. truly a wtf moment there. the military's insignia, i dont think there was even enuff focus on that to plant it to the viewers so the whole thing seemd out of nowhere, plus the mural doesnt even look remotely close to the other insignia, wow how could they have matched those up... i dont see the similarity.
also from the start ive been complaining about the way the scenes have been made.. the points of foucs the panning of the camera.. its still the same, and they also, ALSO STILL ALWAYS face towards the left of the screen on the majority of the scenes, its damn annoying coz its so noticeable. my attention was always shifted to the left side of the screen coz they are always headed towrds and always facing the left.
