Actually, I found most One Piece characters' background sad, especially Chopper...
Also, FMA as everyone else mentioned.
Grave of the fireflies, also pretty sad...
And Berserk, seeing Griffin totally useless is kinna depressing, although, not as depressing as watching episode 24, realise there's no way the series will end properly, and realise by the end of episode 25 that you have just watched a series with the crappiest ending ever...

I read the manga version, which does a better job of the story at the part where the anime ends. Because the manga goes beyond the anime, the story is not as confusing. However, I agree that what happens to Griffith and what he does are mindblowing. The events are extremely sad, which is why anyone should read the manga for the raw emotional experience.
What happens to the Band of the Hawk, its destruction and transformation into an army of Apostles, is even sadder.
Oh man...This brings back memories. I gotta say mine is when Chrno and Rosette died in Chrno Crusade. It was just so sad! I actually cried! _________________

I watched Grave of the Fireflies right after watching Kiki's Delivery Service (they were on the same disk).
Note to everyone: Kiki's DS is not good preparation for watching GotF.
This story is one of the most moving pieces of cinema that you will ever see. Period.
Also, One Piece. The way Bellmere gave up her life to Arlong so that Nami and her sister (Yukio?) could live. That was sad. Pretty stupid as well. I mean, who would have that conviction of not lying in that situation?
Also Ed's scream of anguish after he sees Nina's body. _________________ 'My hat! My hat! There's vomit on my hat!' - Sven Vollfield.
Oh man, for some reason all the mangas I read have sad parts in them. Don't most of them? I just wouldn't be able to decide, I cry so much just reading the sad parts in all of them.
