i dont think that many has played this game.. it doesnt seem like the most popular series of games, i first heard of it when nocturnal came out.
anyways, its really grown on me! good mix of traditional rpg and original new elements, like the fact that you can get other monsters to join your team, then later fuse them togheter to form a much powerfull demon!
what got me interested in the first place was the fact that its more mature then other rpgs out now. usually most japanese rpgs have some cuteness too it, but not this one! the advanced cell-shade graphic makes the horrible demons and the surreal, dark and huge dungeons look amazing!
but actually, this is a game you either love or hate. it can become alittle boring at some parts, and the story takes good time to get into, but once you play it you wont leave it alone untill its finished.
this became a larger post then i expected:P almost a half assed review
well, every review needs to end with a score!
personal score: 9 out of 10 snaggles
proffesional score: 7 out of 10 snaggles _________________ What are you doing man! thats carl!

Actually could you be more specific, you mention Nocturne but are you refering to Noctrne or Digital Devil Saga both use taditonal demons and are similar but you didnt say which one.
true, sorry about that.. kinda slipped my mind. but i was talking about nocturn;) i forgot the fact that i just mentioned nocturn as the first i heard of _________________ What are you doing man! thats carl!
hahaha, by your post title I thought you mean't Shin Megami Tensei for the snes. I played that game by the way (the sequel too). I also played Persona: Innocent Sin, Persona: Eternal Punishment, Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga 1, and current playing part 2. The series is amazing and very few games come close. You can almost say the game shows how original rpgs still exist. Yet, that is not true. This series very old, and in reality it bases itself on alot of the original first games that appears on the SNES and PC. Its weird that to most non-japanese gamers, the SMT series seems original, but its really nothing more then a iteration of a long running series, with few modifications other than graphics.
However, don't take this as an attack on the SMT series as a whole. The games are very well done, it just has the same faults as other long running RPG series *cough Final Fantasy cough*. Either way the games are great, and I recommend playing all iterations. _________________ Go Gitaroo-Man, go fight the mighty piano ships with your mighty Guitar AXE!

Sorry if you dont understand my english sucks.
Utre: Persona 2 was split in 2 parts: Eternal Punishment and Innocent Sin. In the US Innocent Sin was called REVELATIONS. It was horribly censored and edited. They change monster and magic names. It was during the early days of PSX rpgs. Eternal Sin came out during the last good year of the aging PSX. Persona 1 was never released in the US unfortunately, so i can't really comment on them. As far as the plot goes I can give you a general summary. The persona series focuses on a modern contemporary setting (which was original, since most rpgs are set far into the furture or in an alternate world of fantasy and magic). It was one of the features that made Persona unique. Persona focuses in a world in which rumors become reality. Have you heard of the movie Cry_Wolf, the scrip-writer must of either played or heard of Persona. One of the rumors is that if you call your own cell number on your cell you get to leave a message of who you want dead. After 24 hours (something like that) the person you want dead dies.
Basically this is all set in modern day japan with highschool students as the main characters and Tatsuya as the protaginist. They use rumors to gain weapons and powers, which they use to defeat a secret organization bent on bringing the end of world. After that everyone loses their memories and the world starts again with no memory of what happen. In Eternal Sin the main character is Maya, a NPC in Innocent Sin, who happens to have dreams of the stuff that happen to Tatsuya in the past. The battle system is kinda similar to Digital Devil Saga, yet the demons appear as separate entities that fight along with the characters. These monster represent each characters' personas. If you don't get it, read of some of Carl Jung's works (he's a philosopher/psychologist). The plot brushes on very heavy psychological topics.
The game is impossible to find in retail stores, but i'm sure people are selling it on ebay (recommend buying it if you love the SMT series). As far as Persona and Digital Devil Saga, they are not really part of the SMT series. They are spin-offs. Nocturne is more of a direct descendant of the original SMT series that started on the SNES. However, the stories don't connect as far as plot is concerned.
