Light vs Batman

So I am a big anime and marvel/DC fan. And suddenly this thought came to me. Light from Death Note is one of the smartest characters in the anime world and Batman is the greatest detective. Who do you think would win in a match against intelligence?

if we look at the facts we know that Light is already dead but Batman still lives... so Batman wins! Very Happy

It's been a while since the last post but I found this to be an interesting thread. Both Light and Batman are characters of considerable intellect and it is really up to the writers to portray this. So I'll pretty much just list as much as I know about the characters and then come up with a solution based off of what I know. If anyone was around a good year or two ago for the Goku vs. Superman or Cloud vs. Squall threads, you'll remember my style (maybe).

Oh and just to be an ass, I don't think even the combined forces of Light and Batman can win in a match against intelligence. Also, you failed to mention what kind of contest it will be? Is it something as simple as arithmetic, a game of Go, or solving a crime? Maybe you were asking who has the greater intellect?

Bruce Wayne

Billed as the greatest detective in the world, wielding not only a genius level IQ but also an edict memory and possessing more resources than anyone short of Lex Luther and the government. Bruce has spent the greater portion of his life learning every aspect of both his body and mind, to the point where he has complete control over either. His mental fortitude has been tested under various circumstances, most of which would have broken any average mind. Bruce can handle most situations in a calm and collected manner, only allowing his emotions to escape from his callous demeanor when something of the most tragic proportions occurs.

More often than not he solves the cases that the Gotham Police Department cannot and does so in a rather efficient manner. Though Bruce does tip toe outside of the law, occasionally ignoring the most common of torts, he feels that anyone is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. This leads to many situations where he will solve a case with his great powers of deduction and logic but will refuse to act upon his beliefs until he has the evidence to properly convict a criminal.

Outside of brilliant detective work, Bruce is a master tactician. These abilities are tested quite regularly as he goes up against criminals that often outnumber him and have far more firepower. Aside from the average criminal syndicate or street gang, Bruce takes on beings of power considerably greater than his own. To do so requires one to be of the utmost cunning and sharpness of mind.

Rounding out his mental prowess is his vast knowledge of the sciences. While he may not be the brightest in biology, chemistry, physics, or any other form of science, he is well rounded enough to utilize them in a fashion that would aid in his endeavors.

Light Yagami [ I'm getting tired so this'll be shorter. I'm not biased, just getting tired to typing. ]

Quite possibly the most brilliant mind in all of Japan, Light is a prodigy in nearly all matters of the mind. Despite early slip-ups, Light manages to not only defeat the greatest detective in his world (You can argue that it was a draw) but also fool the rest of the world into believing that he was also trying to catch "Kira". To top it off, he prolongs the investigation to an extent of time that would easily make him a suspect, but Light still manages to fool everyone.

Lights greatest strengths are his excellent acting abilities and ability to plan ahead. In many instances he charmed his way out of a possible disaster or utilized his careful planning to turn the tables on his opponents.

(Anyone should feel free to add to Lights strong points and whatnot; I'm just too lazy to continue on him.)

Conclusion

While both Light and Bruce are both phenomenal thinkers, it is only apparently so with Light. As Light has had one writer throughout the entire manga, Bruce has had many. This actually works against the ol' Bat as some writers are better at the detective portion and others are better with action. Another important factor is simply experience. Bruce has at least twice as much experience as Light does or even L for that matter.

If it were a race to solve a case, I believe Batman would be the victor. He simply has more means in such a matter.

If it were a chess game, I believe it would be a tie. Both Light and Batman are very adept at thinking ahead.

Who is more intelligent? It's impossible to say. The writers for Batman are boobs, with the exception of Frank Miller. While Batman is supposed to be a great detective, he really hasn't had too many great detective stories. On the other hand, Light eventually looses, but Batman was only ever really defeated by Bane, but that was more of a physical contest than anything else. (Don’t get me wrong; Bane is still a very intelligent man, right around Batman’s level)

To end this discussion, both men are the most feared mortals in both of their respective realms. Both have great minds. This was a poor topic, as Tim Drake (The third Robin) would have been a better opponent for Light and L would have been a better opponent for Batman. Though... one thing is for certain, a Death Note/ Batman crossover would be badass.

Thanks; I just wish someone would add something meaningful to the discussion. Like I said, I got tired of typing and didn't do too well with Light, so I would love it if someone could make a strong and coherent argument for him.

The Death Note can't help Light, he doesn't know who Batman is. This has already been pointed out at the top of the page. At least read the previous posts before you make a point, otherwise you’ll just look unintelligent.
