The high cost of Living...

I came across this while reading a beautiful design blog (I work in home decor at one job, modern design at another... hence the interest in the site).

Apparently NJ isn't the only place where they're saying that rent and the general cost of living is so high compared to the minimum wages offered, that it's forcing all but the wealthiest people out.

One comment found there had links to a few sites:

which compares how many minimum wage jobs a household must work in order to afford average rent in each particular state.

it's quite amazing.

and...what do they want to do about it? rent control? raise minimum wage? nothing causes nationwide death faster than rent control and raising minimum wage raises unemployment.

Oy....living expenses is rigorous...it's always nice to share it with a partner though....just a thought I'm not at the stage where I'm paying for my own place yet but I can predict that it won't be easy I live in CA.

Raising minimum wage

Increases unemployment

Raises prices of goods(all of them)

Induces the Federal Banks to increase the money supply
-which dilutes the value of the dollar
--encouraging people to hoard money and not spend it
--which increases the cost of goods
-discourages lending of money and paying of debts.

Great, you've just pulled out all of the basic pillars of a good economy. I hope you're proud of yourself.

And anyway, didn't you pay attention in Fullmetal Alchemist? Death is the high cost of living.
