Sounds like another miss for Ghibli. Anyone else notice a trend? Howl's Moving Castle = loose adaptation of a Western work. Tales of Earthsea = loose adaptation of a Western work. Ponyo on a Cliff = loose adaptation of a Western work. I'm all for Western adaptations, but Ghibli's best successes have rarely used Western influences, and it seems like they're getting lazier and lazier with each production. But whatever, good feelings about the company will carry this movie like it carried the other two to box office smash. They almost have a Blizzard-like reputation now; too bad that includes the "lack of innovation" and "taking chances" as well, and that doesn't work as well for movies as it does for games.
What Blizzard has is :INCREDIBLE DEDICATION TO seporate but equal.
and free and dedicated servers.
I mean Zerg/Protoss/Human are all pretty even despite being rather different in style.
Same with the classes in D2 though not quite as much, they Tried at least.
Diablo was Genre defining Diablo 2 is still likely the best in its Genre.
yeah the warcraft 3 was suck.... likely Diablo 3 will be a letdown too. oh well.
So I suppose they should either die or innovate and fail? Yeah .... not talking about the series you want to because YOU decided to bring up Blizzard.
*sigh* I wonder why I bother with internet forums. Filled with fanboys that jump on every little thing and then extrapolates that into the main topic, not to mention are only interested in the most base kinds of anime. I'm constantly reminded of that "Jesus is an Alien" 4-chan pic and the retarded kid winning a race.
I didn't even understand that first sentence; grammar and spelling and correct punctuation always helps with getting your point across. I do agree with Blizzard making quality games, and I even implied that they had an ironclad reputation for making top notch games, much like Ghibli did with animation, pre-Howl's. But let's not kid ourselves, they're running on the same 3 franchises with barely any innovation, and I'm the only one who thinks that.
And this is coming from me, a guy who played WoW for 3 years and was top 15 to kill Illidan. And I'm going to buy SC2 and Diablo 3 and play them until my eyes rot and my fingers fall off. But you know what, I'll never get rid of the feeling that I'm playing just a semi-expansion with better graphics.
Oh, and WoW costs money to play, not free.
Anyways, I haven't seen Ponyo, and it could be the best movie in existance, and maybe the reviewer is retarded. The main thing is you misunderstood the reason I brought up Blizzard, so yeah, reading comprehension is good (OH GRAMMAR MISTAKE! DUH DUH DUH!). Or are you going to deny that Blizzard is running on the coattails of their previous successes?

Isn't Miyazaki the director for this one??? I love Miyazaki's work and I'm willing to give anything of his a try. This is his first full length movie since 2004 (Howl's Moving Castle). I'm actually excited about seeing this one. I find that the majority of Miyazaki's work revolves around self-confidence (ie: The girl in The Cat Returns was told by the Baron to believe in herself and she would return to normal).
There are a couple of films that I haven't seen by Miyazaki, but that's because I can't find the movies in the stores =(
(it took me about 2 years to find Whisper of the Heart) _________________ [img:500:100:c4fd14f873]http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/1606/kirbysigcopyou0.jpg[/img:c4fd14f873]
I went opening day and absolutely loved it, as did my friends. The story has potential to go into the usual environmental issue, but doesn't...
However, it's a Miyazaki movie. You go to enjoy it, entering with the mind of a child. All of the children around me in the theater seemed to be amazed and had lots of fun with it.
After all, it IS a kids movie. _________________ Ask me a question, and I will answer to you with my fists of fury!1!1!!1!!!!
Meh, haven't seen it yet, but I still want to solely because of the Miyazaki name. I don't really see why you're putting so much emphasis on the whole "kid's movie" thing though; frankly, there's no reason why a film made for kids can't appeal to adults, and I have no problem with that. I watch anime; most people who find that out about me thinks I have a problem letting go of my childhood, and I couldn't care less. But if it's a "kid's movie" in the sense that it is poorly written/plotted, then that's no excuse for anything.
Arguably Miyazaki's greatest and most acclaimed work is Mononoke Hime; was that a "kid's film"? He's proven himself to be more than capable of doing films that appeal to everyone of every race/culture, and his cartoons are the only ones in the world that , rival the Disney machine known as Pixar. The mixed reviews I've heard indicate that the animation is amazing for traditional art, but that the storyline is threadbare, and that's disappointing. Miyazaki's most amazing ability is to cause wonder in his audience using childish/animated images, but for the most part, I still want a bit of story to go with it, e.g., Spirited Away, Nausicaa, and Laputa. Sure, they're "cartoons" and "kid's movies," but that doesn't change the fact that they're still remembered and regarded as some of the best films ever.
