Usually title has a relation with its stuff, but there are some animes that have strange titles which make me wonder why did they choose such title.
Look at the well known anime Bleach. What does bleach has anything to do with the story? =/ I checked this word in dictionary and it made chuckled.
There are other animes which you can figure out why its title like that such as Naruto, the name of the hero. As simple as that.
Also Argento Soma, the title is also spelled ΑΠΗΕÎ?ΤΟ ΣΟΜΑ, Greek for "The Silver Body". If you watched the anime then you know that the hero's left face was burned due to the expolsion then his skin color became silver. So maybe thats why ^ ^
Yeah there are titles in Japanese but try to translate it and see how it is related to the anime itself.
Did you find any strange or weird titles? discuss it here! _________________

There are actually alot of weird titles.
And some ( alot, actually ) don't even make any sense. At all.
I bet they gave weird titles for the sole purpose of catching attention, without even thinking of how they link to the anime.
The recent one would be Mnemosyne. In Greek, it was the personification of "Memory". But the anime content wise seemed to be more of Norse Mythology based -- it kept talking about the Yggdrasil. Greek title but Norse content?
Bleach...well, there were several theories as to the name. Becoz the Shinigami "cleanse" the Hollow so...yeah...you get the point....
Speaking of Bleach, reminds me of D.Grayman. I , for the life of it, have absolutely no idea what the heck does the title means. And it sound so weird as well. (anyone knows the reason for the title?)
There's also Loki Ragnarok. Once again, the series throws in stylish names... just to be catchy and no other reasons. Yeah, most people know what Ragnarok is and who is Loki, but to throw them in together... well...yeah, it's both Norse...but that doesn't mean the names go well with each other.
Also, how could we ever forget FLCL?
I'll try to expand my list later when I can think of the older series... ...
EDIT :
-- -- -- -- ---
And now, to a title that actually made sense (despite having odd names)
xxxHOLiC: For those who don't know, the "xxx" denotes variable, "holic" denotes "obsession/addiction", as in say, alcoholic, workaholic etc
This anime happened to be about such themes, so yeah. (and it sounds cool too)
I believe FLCL was explicitly stated to be a nonsense name for the anime.
Mnemosyne actually makes a bit of sense for the title of that series.
The time spores store the memories of the people they reside in, and those memories can then be eaten and gained by someone else. Rin's resurrection at the beginning of episode 6 seems to indicate that the spore itself doesn't just keep the person alive, it actually becomes that person.
One that recently seemed to confuse people was Spice and Wolf, which depending on your opinion was either a really good anime about economics, medieval Europe, and pagan harvest gods, or was a really good anime about economics, medieval Europe, and pagan harvest gods that was made hard to watch by gratuitous Engrish. I'm of the first school, really. The title itself, of course, refers to Lawrence, who deals at least partially in spices, and Horo, who... if you don't know, you just need to watch the series.
One that makes little sense to me now that I think of it is Wolf's Rain, which is about a pack of wolves, but doesn't really deal much with rain. The end of the world, yes. Perhaps there was something to do with the fact that the only rain in the series is in the opening sequence and the end of the final OVA.
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni (Sometimes translated as "When the Higurashi cry")could easily confuse people, especially with the title translated to English being They Are Crying. Higurashi are apparently a species of cicada which has a particularly mournful cry, which can be heard during the festival the series focuses on. _________________ The pen is mightier than the sword

That what I thought and used to hear from others but it sounds lame..and somehow funny. Also what Kevin said might be true.
I didn't watch watch Mnemosyne so I have no idea. i didn't follow much of 2008 animes >.<;

I didn't watch it yet but from the picture I've seen the hero has a gray hair...so it might refer to him xD

Just thinking on the name with its story we can speculate that flower needs water to grow and to relate that to the storyline it does make a sense.
That girl called a flower if I wasn't wrong and those wolves are protecting her till she bloom and take them to paradies or something like that so they can represent rain to her and since they are wolves so yeah it make a sense ....somehow
I saw the first epi of FLCL so I dunno though it sounds weird.
And yeah about Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni that sound of cicada is heard in that village but it has nothing to do with the story, I believe.
I consider Air one of them. If it was sky then we can say it represents or symbolizes freedom but looks like they choosed this title randomly since most of the sub-titles of each episodes has a name related to the nature so I think it has nothing to do with the overall story.
Also Kanon which means canon (correct me if I was wrong). _________________

line >>> yeah, but still, it's kinda weird to put the "D." for D.Grayman.
and I don't think Kanon has anything to do with canon.
As for the Higurashi part, me thinks it's more on the fact that the cicadas sounding mournful -- well, you know how owls were once thought to be ominous becoz of the sound of their hooting ? -- similar idea in Higurashi , I guess.
Anyway, another title I thought of, which sounded quite weird, was Fate Stay/Night. Yeah, I saw lots of theories as to how the title works, but still... ...it sounded more like the creator chucked in gratuitous amount of Engrish.

Bobobo-bo Bobo-bo (or whatever it is)... yeah, it's named after the main character and is meant to be funny, but I still find it strange.
Kashimashi ~ Girl Meets Girl... the series takes place in some city called like Kashimura or something, but I don't see why they changed the name around to what they did
Lucky * Star... does this even mean anything?

I've heard it translated as "When the Cicadas Cry", though in all-fairness, that was from a fan-art circle. Like someone else mentioned earlier, I think it's the eerie ominous sound that sends shivers down people's spines.

Actually, that's not true. I have yet to finish it, but when they get through Shiori's story, they explain the relevance to Pachebel's Canon...
as the girls' stories develop, a new layer is added to the overall plot, and as more and more come together, they combine to create a richer harmony, just as Canon becomes richer and richer with each new stanza as more instruments are added in.
And in case anyone was wondering about the other titles in the Key/VisualArt's "triology":
Air = relevance to all things related to the sky (clouds, wind, birds, wings, flying)
CLANNAD = Irish word for "family"... which is appropriate for an anime about the stories of 6 high school friends and the issues they have with their respective families. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
"When the Higurashi cry" would be a literal translation of the series, "They are crying" was the licensed localization for the benefit of Americans who don't know what Higurashi are.
'cause everyone knows Americans are morons...(stupid sorcerer's stone) _________________ The pen is mightier than the sword

Fate/Stay Night.
Is there any relevance to anything in the show?
Ahh also Fruits Basket was always one I thought the name was odd, but it explains later in the manga, where its a game where kids get to choose a fruit and Tohru get's assigned Onigiri and her 'fruit' never gets called out. _________________ Get ready to vote for who you think is the Sexiest Anime Character!!
Fate Stay/Night
Many theories to the Stay/Night part
1. Battles were held at night in order to prevent the "normal humans" from finding out about the Magicians
2. This was adapted from an eroge. 'nuff said.
The "fate" part may relate to Archer's history.
some time paradox caused by Rin in the summoning of Archer and saving Emiya Shirou. Archer's true identity is in fact none other than Shirou himself (adult version)

ahhhhh, so there IS a relation!! I played the game in the 3rd grade ES class and instantly thought of that anime. I was like "nah, it must just be a coincidence" haha... it is a fun game though... finding a chair is not as easy as it sounds.
I have a new entry to toss into the pile...
ULTRAMANIAC!!! what... the... fooyck? For a while, I though it was some shounen series about kids who are crazy or something. This is actually a shoujou title about witches... it's a very good series, just has the dumbest name evor. _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)

Speaking of misguiding names.
School Rumble --> I always thought it was some school yard fighting anime like Tenge Tenjou ... although school yard delinquents and fights related its a School Romantic comedy.
Princess Tutu --> Although not misguiding ... its the most off putting anime title for anyone to see it, even if it is a master piece of an anime ^^;; Defiantly a diamond in the rough. They spent heaps of years on this one. _________________ Get ready to vote for who you think is the Sexiest Anime Character!!

same... the ads for the English-version here repeat multiple times how it's the "anime that has nothing to do with actual rumbling." _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)
