Now this is a great manga, probably one of the best samurai manga around, along with the great classic that Lone Wolf and Cub is. (I think it also depends if you consider Usagi Yojimbo to be manga or not (which I don't, btw))
And yes, the art is simply amazing, and there's a lot of blood in there, but if you read it for those things, you really are missing the point. The thing about BotI is it's story, it's well rounded characters and the overall realistic feel of the manga. (little worms aside ;p) Most characters have their own motivations, and they're not black or white, but move in shades of grey. Also, they don't relay on single flashy attacks like in the typical fighting series, and the story advances so that fights come along naturally, and doesn't have that videogame feel when the main character seems to be going from one stage to another killing bosses and gaining secondary characters... ;p
Oh, and you can't deny that the fact that the main character gets his arse kicked so much is something to appreciate in a world filled with unbeatable protagonists... |

I found a page from which I can download volumes 1- 14:
http://bizual.free.fr/boi.php
How much of the series it is? As I understand this still not finished... (damn why so many good things are not finished, I swear I will not read anything that I cannot get a whole at once so I can read as much as I want till the end and not wait for next chapter for 2 or 3 weeks ) |

| Geez, I've been reading this in bookstores but for some reason, there's been nothing since vol. 12. Does anybody know if there are more English translated volumes out? Because if there are, then the local store isn't doing a good job stocking them. |

I really love the distinctiveness of the manga style. The plot is pretty cool and excessive violence and blood is always a plus! |

I dont know if excesive violence is a plus or not, but i dont know if there is excesive violence in this manga either. The figths are not there just to show blood, they are there as part of the plot and that is important to me. The figths are usually over decorated with backgrounds and motives around the characthers, and a few of the weapons are made up by the artist, who ahs recognized who doesnt knows nothing at all about weapons, martial arts or samurai.... but he sure knows a lot about writting and drawing, definitively. A bgreat manga if you are reading it for its awesome history, a poor manga if you expect realism or well represented figthing styles. _________________ "It ain`t dead, just life impaired"

woah I love this manga. Maybe the main plot is nothing new. (Samurai-revenge-slice and dice yada..yada yada.) But superb artwork, cool characters, and nice twists.
And like Pepius said, the characters are not black and white, each has their own motivation. Just how I like it It's better than Lone Wolf and Cub too.
I am starting to like Anotsu now. can't wait to read the next volume! _________________ I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman. |
