After watching the final episode of Soul Eater last night this topic sprang into my head. If you haven't seen it yet I won't spoil it for you, but I will say that it was one of the lamest, cheesiest endings I've ever seen. I actually considered stopping before it was over and just leaving the final ten minutes of a 51 episode show unseen. I regret now that I didn't.
Anyway, this brings me to the question: What is the worst anime ending ever? In addition, as a set of sub-questions, what was most God-awfully prolonged anime ever (DBZ/DBGT gets my vote), and what was the most annoyingly cut short anime ever (even though the series was pretty long, I'm going with HunterXHunter)?
See what school rumble did was it aired...lemme check now...
It aired episode 25 and 26 of the third season, and has not made and I don't think Intends to make episodes 1-24 of that season.
Honorable mention goes to Tenjou Tenge, which is a series that covers a section of manga that is 3 volumes of present, 4 volumes of not really relevant flashback, then returns to the present, and the series just ENDS.
Hey we're out of time folks.
So thems my votes.
wouldn't say TT was 'drawn out' so much as it didn't really know what the heck it was doing with its time.
Drawn out? Haven't seen the current big three who supposedly have quite a few fillers, Shippuden had a pretty long segment.
Dunno I recall That those 5 minutes on Namek lasting 10 episodes was incredibly hard to swallow, but Naruto had a segment of 3 minute poison immunity lasting a good number of chapters.
Fight being of Old lady and Sakura vs a puppet man. in short who the **** gives a crap. certainly not kishimoto.
and there was a long chase scene of Naruto and Kakashi running after a clay bird ...
So yeah start of Shippuden. Gt wasn't drawn out so much as it was written by a fanboy. Goku, *meets new enemy*
Goku either immune to new enemies powers or can mimick new enemies powers perfectly cuz hes so l33t. and then it ends with him simply eating his way to victory.
Its really BAD, but its not really drawn out. they cover alot of bad material.

Hmmm....good topic for a thread.
Longest/most dragged out goes to the first season of Naruto. I left to go to work one day while my boyfriend was watching a marathon, came back 8 hours later and they were still on the exact same story arc. To be fair, I haven't seen Shippuden or any season of DB/DBZ and he claims that those are all ten times worse. The Bleach fillers get pretty bad as well.
Inuyasha would be my runner up, and is also my candidate for worst ending as it just...ends. No final battle (that matters) no resolution in Inuyasha and Kagome's relationship. It simply stops. Oh, you're going to keep hunting Naraku and collecting jewel shards...that's great, you could have let me know, I dunno, 160 EPISODES AND FOUR MOVIES AGO!
I'm also not a big fan of how Fullmetal Alchemist ended, although I am glad that they spared us lengthy seasons of fillers. And His and Her Circumstances, like Inuyasha, managed to seem never ending throughout three fourths of the series and cut short in the last episodes. More recently I was very disappointed with how Kannagi ended.
I guess it sometimes comes down to the lesser of two evils and it's hard to tell which is worse; fabricating an ending that's subpar to the original source material, or waiting for the manga to continue and in the meantime filling the space with episodes that cannot create anything new and exciting. Despite the demand and money involved, I wish that studios would take a step back and wait to develop some of these projects until they can complete a well-done series. Of course, if it’s based on a popular manga, another studio would just scoop up the rights and develop it anyway. Sigh. _________________

Quie a lot of anime I've watched recently ended poorly, such as Xam'd, Kannagi, Ride Back and Kurenai. When you consider the fact that this thread started with Soul Eater, another recent anime, it does make you worry a bit.
I can't think of that many older series that ended that badly...Paranoia Agent is the only one that springs to mind. Oh, and the Ghibli movies. Both Spirited Away and Howls Moving castle finished with 'oh look, everythings suddenly fixed instantly' which was really dissapointing after being so amazing up until then.
Bit of a depressing topic so just to cheer things up a bit: Best ending goes to Code Geass!

Both Naruto and Bleach are in the process of outdoing DBZ/GT, and I definitely think they will. That Naruto canyon chase scene was almost as annoying as the Goku v. Frieza battle.
I didn't dislike the endings of Spirited Away or Howl's, though, but I am a sucker for Miyazaki.

Hm well i love Elfed Lied but i hate the ending (in the anime not manga)
she dies and than a shadow of her pops up like she alive
Great anime just i though the ending could of be happy for lucy since no one loved one before and finally she find it..but poor lucy got no one but bullets -.-
The first season was awesome then the second season was so-so and the ending was reeaally anti climatic it ruined the whole show for me
In general I hate how in a lot of anime you get the headcharacter start explaining his motives for like half of the last episode. Is this a japanese thing becuase half of the time they hardly make any sense and I'm really going wtf don't you have something else to do?
Prolonged filler prize has to go to Naruto first season. I mean more then 100 episodes of pure uncut filler with hardly any attempt to make another arc out of it or anythng?
Bleach is pretty bad aswell but atleast here they are trying to make the filler less fillerly
Dragonball Z is probably the prizewinner for prolonged scenes. I haven't counted it but a minute there seems to be like 15 minutes real time when fighting. Episodes where they only exchange a few hits and nothing more really.
The ending literally f-ed up. In the middle of the series:
KAMINA DIED!! WTF HE WAS MY FAVE GUY IN THAT SERIES?!
and at the end of the series:
SIMON BECAME A HOBO!! HUH? THE PERSON WHO SAVED THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE. . . THE PERSON WHO HAD THE STRONGEST SPIRAL POWER BECAME A HOBO?? WTF!!!
and:
NIA DIED!!! WTF NIA WAS ANOTHER OF MY FAVE GIRL IN THAT SERIES
Like Ashton Kutcher said in that 70's show>> BURN!!!!<< That's how I felt after watching this. Made me vry from time to time.
school Days is another one but at least there's a lesson learned for guys.

dude, chill pill
for some reason i thought there was a thread just like this or pretty similar to this one but since this thread is still here i guess not
Like anniemae said, Gurren Lagann had a conflicted ending though I will not say that the deaths in there are horrible, from the very beginning it was Simon's show though I will admit that I was VERY bummed out. I reflexively cringe when I go through my anime reserves and see Gurren Lagann staring back at me. Not that the series was horrible, far from it and may those who think otherwise be smited in horrendous fashion.
School Days though...those writers are f@#$ed up. Everything was f@#$ed up, the characters, the story, the retard serial killer moments, everything. I was totally looking for a lighthearted harem romance but no, it left me with a mental trauma about quiet, studious girls...and boats...
Let's see, another series that I did not like how it ended is Rideback. I had a fair amount of expectation for it and it just didn't deliver like I wanted to. The whole thing took way too much of a political turn and didn't really delve into Rideback's which was what I was interested in. Other than that, the plot was realistic...mostly, and wasn't terrible just not great. _________________ ALL HAIL LELOUCH
well, the worst anime ending for me is school days. it really is no good for me. i enjoyed the plot but what happened to its ending.. it's just the ending seems not been thought of well. i regret watching this series. _________________ Be a girl scout... you'll need these.
