Synopsis & Reviews @ Anime-Source.com
Girls with guns! Choppy cel-shaded mecha action! Zombies piloting robots! This has it all!
Anyway, saw this... So far it looks like any other action show about four girls wearing skimpy outfits... Hopefully GONZO can do something creative with this one though. |

I only had a cursory glance through the raw. What I saw though seems to be good animation. The mecha combat and designs look excellent.
Since I only glanced through, I couldn't tell if there would be a good plot to go along with it. Yeah the heroines clothes are as skimpy as those in Daphne's but anime-plotwise it could be like Daphne which is currently picking up pace at the moment. Think I will watch the raw normally later.
The manga was already out in the stores here some time before. Wonder how close it is following it... |

As far as I know the manga was created at the same time as the anime was... But the anime was delayed quite a bit. So their stories might indeed be pretty similar. Or not. Who knows. |

bah.....gonzo always had weak mecha design
and from the crappy promo the cg - animation intergration didnt look as fluid as vandread did...mainy cuz vandread was in space and the cg didnt look to bad on the pure black background
but then again it was a promo...there still is hope....i guess :/ _________________

No, it doesn't look very fluid in the episode too... It's pretty choppy actually. IMO GONZO's CG has always looked a bit out of place in their TV series and it's no different here. |

I had a good look through the raw now.
An off shot synopsis (rudimentary Japanese):
Nicely done (not as great as Macross Zero but still nice) small-mecha vs gigantic Cyborg battle at the start. I thought it was fluid enough. I think the mech designs are pretty good. Futuristic with no extraneous parts. They do not have smooth shells but that's the part that appeal to me here. They look mechanical rather than smooth giant humanoids.
A college (high school) student got fired from his delivery job due to his bike getting blasted during a shootout by a mysterious female & a mutant. Later he applies for a housekeeper/cook job. Picking him up in a nice red car is Rei. A female that dresses somewhat like a police officer but with no bra and her lower breasts peeking out.
Rei brings him to a big trailer where we are introduced to Meg & Ana. Meg comes across reminding me of Sohryu Asuka Langley. Meg apparently dislikes our guy (hmmm funny I forgot his name ) while Ana (the young one) takes a shine to him. Rei appears to be the oldest of the group .
Anyway it seems that this is a kind of bounty hunter group. While a job offer came, Jo comes stumbling out and our guy recalls that she was the mysterious female. Personal thought: when Jo & Meg come together... they look like Ayanami Rei & Asuka. Our guy gets kicked out as the girls did not want him to know the specifics of their jobs. He gets abducted by certain guys.
In a warehouse, a shady deal is going on. Meg & Jo infiltrate then bust up the deal. The bad guys above busts in and dumps our guy onto the floor bound in a straight-suit, threatening to kill him unless our heroines turn over the package to them. Jo of course doesn't comply. A Cyborg (flying model) busts in and disrupts the whole proceeding, killing off several thugs in the process. It is gunning for the package.
Strangely, Meg went back to help our guy get out of his straight-suit (well... only just to shoot off a lock). But in doing this, she is grabbed by the Cyborg. Episode ends with Janggo (the mecha in the intro, piloted by Meg) being sent out to Meg to combat the Cyborg.
Some good stuff I see. Besides the mecha, the action here is pretty fast and fluid. The art is good. Lines are thick enough to differentiate objects and colours rich, strong and vibrant. Character designs are good though "evil eyes" seem to be common here. Note: Korean animators are given major credit here.
Overall I say this series has caught my attention enough to warrant watching for a while (like how Daphne has started off). |

Some corrections... The Chinese-looking girl's name is Sei, not Rei. And yes she is indeed the oldest (19). The young girl is Amy, not Ana. And JoeXMeg aren't exactly ReiXAsuka either, they don't seem hate each other's guts after all (in fact they seem quite close...)
As for the Korean names, once again, that applies to many of Gonzo's titles, since they don't specialize in 2D animation, so they ship a lot of it off to the minor studios.
BTW strangely, the official Baku-ten website seemed to have been ripped off from the PMK website... They still have graphics in it that links to the PMK address... I thought that was some funny display of "plagarism" (even if the same company made it) |

Heh thanks for correcting Sei & Amy.
On the Rei-Asuka issue with Jo-Meg, it is how they are portrayed together (not relationship). The physical design and personality seem too similar to NGE. Our spunky, hot headed tough lass and the cool, bored with life ice maiden.
On Jo-Meg's friendliness here, of course I take it you haven't seen the doujins about Rei & Asuka in their spare time...
Of course on the other hand, Asuka does not let her nipples portrude into the air like that...
I shall watch this series to see how it goes, and not just for the sake of Asuka, oops I mean Meg, I mean I'm not watching just for her.
Ok...maybe just a lil... |

It's also Joe instead of Jo...
Yeah I notice the physical resemblance too, but still, they are no clones. Joe and Rei might look similar but I just don't see Rei doing what Joe did in this episode...
And meh I've seen tons of Eva doujin, their intimacy in those is overrated... |

ROFL. Episode one looked so stupid its funny. This is like a cheesy hentai game that's trying to promote girl power. They tried to cram so much character information into the first episode its ridiculous.
The fanservice and coo art kept my attention through out the episode but from the looks of it, this is gonna be a series I'll get bored of by episode 5. |

| K, after watching the sub, I guess it looks fairly interesting. But damn it's cliched... Kyohei being a cook and getting involved is pretty much what happened to Akito in Nadesico, Amy is the genius kid hacker/programmer, Meg is the classic "seem to hate you but actually cares for you" type, and Jo is the "don't give a shit just doing my job" type. I'm sure they can do something interesting with this, and even if they can't I guess it looks pretty cool so I'll enjoy it the same way I did Last Exile (bored the hell out of me but with pretty eyecandy) |

Initial impressions from watching the first episode?
Cheesy as hell.. but damn nice animation!
EVERYONE LOOSEY!!!!
ahahaa... damn that 'engrish' OP.. lol
One lesson Japanese singers should learn is don't write stuff in english if you don't know the language. That rap like OP song was just HORRIBLE but I was laughing my ass off from listening to it..
The first episode is fairly interesting, it seems like GONZO has gone the harlem anime thing again except with major fighting and cool graphics kinda like Vandread. So i'm gonna give this a shot since I enjoyed Vandread and there's cute girls in the series.. ahaha |

You know you have been in Japan to long when stuff that that doesn't even phase you anymore.
I also appreciate the previous everything-can-relate-to-Eva-discussion. Really reaching IMO but funny nne the less.
From the start this show was looking to be a blatant fan-service feast and things haven't changed from what I saw. I'm not going to expect anything huge (Though it would be nice) from the series but then again I don't think that being "different" is what the show is all about. more just taking the same old formulas and trying to make them hipper/cooler/flashier.
I didn't really see anything bad w/ the CG myself. sometimes I know that the animation has a hard time translating to DVD but from what I saw it seemed fluid enough.
My only gripe was Meg nippin out the entire episode. Good grief. |
