Same taught as you, that the author is the Dad.

Wonder why Johan didn't just take the tape or replace it with a fake one? I understand that the way he did it is more interesting story wise but isn't he giving information away?

Darn! We will never get to hear what was on that tape now!

It's Johan's way of tormenting people! He lets them hear some of it but not the juicy parts!!

Episode 49 was brilliant!

The ending scene with Grimmer genuinely crying over Milos brought a lump to my throat. This episode proved yet again how nasty Johan is, no normal person would convince a small child they have no purpose for being. His motivations confound me more with each episode!!

Ep: 49.

I've said it before and will say it again, Johan is evil.

Thankfully though Tenma figured out was was going on.

Lol, Caireen! Then I guess I'm one of Johan's victim's where the tape is concern.

Some one asked a while back where they could find the beginning episodes for Monster. I checked AnimeSuki and all torrents from Soldats are still active, so if you're new to Monster start here:
http://a.scarywater.net/soldats/
Anime Kraze has the latest episodes after that, although Soldats will evenutally release them as well. The series has its slow moments but remains excellent over all.

I have a question about an "extra" episode (I've downlaoded the series from Anime-Kraze, but haven't started watching yet). Where in the series does this extra episode fit? I watched a few minutes of it, & it appeared to be a clip show/review ep.

Alright just some info about Monster
But what do you think people? Who do you think should be the cast?

from movies.about.com:

Japanese Manga Comic Book Series to Become a Feature Film

LOS ANGELES (April 6, 2005) - New Line Cinema has acquired the feature film rights to "Monster," the fastest-selling Japanese manga comic book series ever, from legendary author Naoki Urasawa.

"Monster" is a fast-paced psychological thriller that tells the story of a young doctor who saves the life of a little boy - only to find a few years later that the life he saved was that of a brilliant killer. The doctor must then track down the young killer and solve a larger conspiracy.

"Monster" has previously been adapted into an animated Japanese television series and has spawned 18 volumes as a manga series.

“Naoki Urasawa is a phenomenal cinematic storyteller, and we're thrilled to have an opportunity to bring this incredible project to the screen,” said producer Neil Kaplan.

"Monster" is among the most successful comics ever released. It has sold more than 25 million copies in Japan, and also found a strong following throughout Asia and Europe. In addition to "Monster," Shogakukan has produced a variety of books, comic books, animation, films and toys including the popular “Pokemon” series.

Overseeing the project for New Line are production executives Cale Boyter and Magnus Kim.

I'm not 100% but I thought it was a review of the first season - a recap.

Episodes 50 & 51 were wonderful, as always!!

I must admit, when Runge was smashing down that wall, I got goose bumps! Not sure what I was expecting, something a little more macabre but I guess the portrait on the wall was pretty creepy!
Poor Dr. Tenma, I can't believe the police caught him but it does appear that Runge has finally come to terms with the idea, that Tenma isn't guilty and that there is a monster

Episode 51 felt like a cross between (tv series) The Fugitive and The Incredible Hulk but with a much better story!

I keep thinking that if
Tenma had been the one to walk into the room he would find something more then what Runge has found so far. I mean does it not seem odd, that the room was sealed up and all that was found was the letter behind the portrait. I keep having the naging feeling that someting is missed.

Also the letter metioned giving Anna back her name but why isn't Johan's name mentioned?

Why did Margoret L disappear or rather what did she find out about her old friend that required her disappearance?

I reckon there's something behind the fireplace!!

I was wondering about the name thing too! But I got the impression the mother was named Anna and it wasn't talking about the child!

I got a little confused with the Margot scene too! She must have dyed her hair, because when she saw her son (Karl Neumann) off on the train is was dark brown but in that bed scene it was blonde. For a while I thought she was Johan and Nina's mother Confused

Yup, the fireplace would be a good hiding place. Now that you've mentioned it, how about beneth the wooden flooring or in the portrait itself - like a micro film or something?

The thing about the letter is that it leaves everything so open ended. We do not know for sure who wrote it or who it is actually intended for. As you said it could be intended for mum.

The way I see it is it could be:
1. Written by dad to mum (as mentioned by Caireen).
2. Written by dad to twins or only Anna (Nina).
3. Written by mum to twins or only Anna (Nina).

Another thing that struck me is that throughout the show Johan is known as Johan (if I remeber correctly) but Anna is now known as Nina. I wonder if there is any significance?

Remember how when they were children, they both acted all creepy and had the same evil eyes? Maybe the names signify that Johan is still the same as when they were children, but Anna(Nina) has changed.

I wondered if Nina/Anna took on her mothers name and didn't Johan's name come from the fairy tale

Johan is the name of the kid at the end of the fairy tale.

Nice point seraphic_guardian and Caireen.

Also I taught it was kind of weird that neither of them seem to remember their childhood with thier mum, it seems like those times are a repressed memory.

Maybe something more horrific than we realise happened when they were living with the Lieberts! I can't remember whether what happened when she shot Johan wiped her memories completely and did she have no memories when she was at university? (can't remember the name of her adoptive parents then).
Johan's memories were wiped (or so we're supposed to think) when he was at 511 Kinderheim. It's quite probable that Johan remembers more than he lets on

Sadly, for some reason, I immediately envisioned Keanu Reeves being offered the role.
