I love how the anime is going... and thanks for the link.. I'm gonna go read the manga now as well =P
For a split second there in Episode 5, I thought that professor was the hospital director. The pacing is pretty good and we're finally piecing together how the murders all come together. Still no reason for the murders but pattern is definitely there =) _________________
Just caught up on Monster eps 3-5 and it's definitely great, getting better and more interesting with every episode! It's a rarity among most of the other recent shows and I can't think of an analogue in the anime medium.
The only thing that bothers me a little is that a lot of characters have too similar faces, especially those big noses...

There's Master Keaton, which is from a few years ago (1999), and it's fairly similar, mainly because it's based on another one of Naoki Urasawa's works.
"Taichi Keaton is a half-British half-Japanese archeologist and SAS veteran of the Falklands War. He solves mysteries and investigates insurance fraud for Lloyd's around the world."
Sounds interesting, doesn't seem to be a horror/mystery like Monster though...

You can't really tell what a Urasawa manga is really about just from its descriptions, you know... It's definitely a dark mystery manga/anime just like Monster (though I wouldn't classify either of them as "horror").
Well according to ANN Monster is "Drama, Horror, Mystery, Police, Psychological" and Master Keaton is "Military, Mystery", that's what I'm basing my guess on. Btw Urasawa has done the art ot Master Keaton, not the story.

Yeah I happen to be one of ANN's major contributers ( http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/contributors.php ), and I submitted most of the info on the Monster page, so I can always just add horror to Master Keaton to convince you, right?
I know Urasawa only did the art, but Master Keaton shares a lot of similarities with Monster, enough that it is considered Urasawa's work by most Japanese manga fans.
Monster 6 and 7 came out. Gives me the creeps when I watch the series.
Tenma basically screwed himself over now since he left his finger prints all over the scene of the crime and his only witness Anna/Nina ran away too.
Looks like he's going to become a wanted man by episode 8. I love how the plot ties itself together (his ex fiancee looks like she's back in the picture again talking to police). _________________
After watching up to Ep 7 I have to say I prefer the art in the manga much more... But the anime does translate the feelings of the manga quite well... Too bad it's cutting bits and pieces out (to fit it all in 70 eps).

By bits and pieces, are you referring to Nina/Anna's little bareback/side scene when she was changing?
The anime is following very closely to the manga though. They have never changed anything, just snipped off certain pieces which do not detract from the plot or background (so far).
They certainly did not take the easy road of twisting one character's personality around or adding some new character/device to 'add flavour' or totally eliminating key scenes(Thank goodness!). There is the possibility of eliminating/shortening the supporting characters' side stories in the future though...
Part of the problem in scripting to the anime is that the pacing and timing of certain actions and events would come off not as intended as in the manga. I do not think they could have caught that during the initial drawing and storyboard phase. If they had watched the whole episode during the QA phase and caught it there, they might not have enough time to re-edit those particular scenes to fit with the manga.
While not the most refreshing or anticipated anime for me (funny enough Bakuretsu & Daphne have that weird latter honour now...), I would say content-wise this anime beats the current batch of anime out there right now. *2 thumbs up*

I'm glad you understand me... j/k

Of course, unlike other anime that are adapted from manga, this one actually as the full story to work from, so there's no need to change anything since there's no reinterpretation to be done. But yeah, they already said that some of the stories will be removed in the future (I'd say the stories of the old doctor and the Vietnamese girl will most definitely be gone...), which is a shame because they all contribute to the overall theme of this story.

Well, at least you have something to look forward to... Right now, I'm just getting them as they come... There really hasn't be a show that I really look forward to ever since January...
Well, with all the criticism I give crappy shows right now I have 4 shows I'm looking forward to and they are all pretty damn amazing - Monster, Paranoia Agent, Samurai Champloo, and SAC 2nd Gig... At first it looked like Midori no Hibi could join them but after seeing the eps that have come out and reading the manga it's quite disappointing...
Anyway, I didn't know what to expect from Monster at first but so far it has been more than great! If any bareback or whatever scene was skipped, all for the better - I've had enough of pointless fanservice, I just want a good, thoughtful, and intriguing story from this one. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad if they throw a bit of romance (I've also had enough of giggly schoolgirl romance and soapy drama romance). That's if I'm reading the foreshadowing in the first few episodes right - doctor going out with boss daughter who doesn't really love or even like him, then refusing to go out with women who want him because of his position. Btw even if I'm right here please don't spoil anything

Well, let's just say you have a while to go if you actually think you can predict any of Urasawa's works...
As for the "bareback" scene... That's not really fanservice at all. There were much more revealing nudity in the manga (it's a seinen manga after all ), though they are few and far between.
Anyway, I guess if I never read the manga I'd be looking forward to this show, but since I've read it (and I prefer it over this so far), I'm just watching this to see how it turns out animated.
