Hmm, that's one term I'm not aware of... what does "seinen" mean?

Seinen (青年) means "youth" or "young man"... In manga demographics that usually means guys ages 16~30... And seinen manga usually have relatively mature themes, complex storylines, and many feature high amounts of violence, gore, nudity and even sex (compared to say Shonen)... And of course, most seinen manga feature adult protagonists as well. From what I know of your tastes in anime, many of the show you like are based on seinen manga (for example Berserk, GitS, etc Wink ). Though manga like Ai Yori Aoshi and Tenjo Tenge are seinen too.

If that's the case I'll have to remember the term Wink
Still I don't like classification that causes standatization like "that's what a seinen/shounen/shoujo/whatever manga *should* have" Smile

It's a very good series, if you're a patient type of person that considers storytelling more important than action. I've finished the manga too, and yes, it has so far been very faithful to the storyline. I don't remember much nudity at all though... hmm...

70 episodes... more than enough time to tie up the manga storyline, but in the manga, especially towards the end, the story felt slow and redundant. Hopefully, the anime isn't completely faithful, and changes a little bit of the ending, making it less confusing and more concrete. Whatever, it's a year from being done.

Well, there's certainly nudity... Especially that stomach churning scene with that fat assassin guy who ... Forgot his name.

But anyway, yeah somewhere along the middle the story seemed to slowed down significantly... But I don't think that made it that repetitive though. As for the ending, I don't think its that confusing, other than the very last chapter which left things a bit ambiguous.

i have a question inspired from this show.

in the show, tenma chooses to operate on the kid rather than the mayor in accordance to order of arrival. i dont think anyone would disagree with the moral choice here.

but suppose a theive who was injured in a police chase came in with life threatening conditions, and then after this, another patient comes with life threatening conditions as well, and you are the only doctor and u can only choose between one operation, which would u choose?

suppose again that the first patient admitted is a convicted murderer or a serial rapist, and the 2nd patient is an innocent kid. only one operation could be done, which would it be?

Tenma is fulfilling his hippocratic oath in administering aid to a person who needs it, irregardless of who it is. The oath has the basic belief that all man has the right to medical aid, irregardless of whatever they have done or are doing or whatever creed/colour/religion they are.

Since one doctor cannot operate on 2 person at the same time (unless the circumstances of the 2 treatments of the injuries/illness are so uniquely complementary as to allow that), the doctor has to place a priority on either the most life-threatening case that can be saved.

Needless to say, this can result in conflicts with one's beliefs like what the examples you gave. But the doctor who believes in the hippocratic oath should not let their own beliefs interfere with who should be treated.

In other words, the hippocratic oath does not place a comparative value on human lives. They are neither equal nor inequal, just lives to be saved.

Just finished watching episode 25 and 26. The story is really slow in these 2 episodes. Hope it picks up soon.

It may have seemed to be slow through 25 and 26 but I love the way that they tied things up in 27. Might have helped that I watched all 3 within 2 days, but the writers have been quite good at creating plausible situations and leaving different paths open.

Johan is depicted as the master manipulator, and while it surely looked like he may kill Karl and assume the role of the businessman's son, it was brilliant to have him not commit any direct crimes yet potentially have access to a large sum of money. We don't see any evidence, but past events imply that Johan manipulated the other student into posing as the businessman's son and then committing suicide. I wouldn't be surprised if Johan had influenced the businessman to hire the alcoholic PI as well.

In my opinion episode 25 & 26 would have been better if they had combined it into a single episode.

Love what they are doing with Johan. He seems so angelic while all the time he is being the devil.

Yeah, I too taught Karl had it but what Johan did was a stroke of genius.

its truly nice to see the good side(and personnality) of Johan. I can't bring myself to imagine thats hes really a cold hearted killer... with his angelic face, soft voice and all... and damn at the end of ep 27 did it surprise me... i thought that Johan would say he was the son of Schuwald...it was a really nice thing he did... but on the very last shot... why did he have an evil face O-o?

Episode 28 was simply fantastic.

We get to see that Johan had been targeting Schuwald for the last 4 years. Simply fantastic, what a brilliant and twisted mind.

Also I barely caught a glimpse of Johan the first time at the subway. Had to rewind it for confirmation.

Wonder if the detective will survive as he is now being targeted for elimination by Johan. Though it feels kind of weird the Johan is being so sloopy this time around.

Can't wait for the next episode!

Very Happy
