yup buy one, DVD burners are under 100$ & you can find cd burners under 50$ but I suggest you don't get a DVD burner unless you really know what you're doing

what is the difference between cd-r and dvd-r?i already buy and install a cd burner but i dont know which one to use...

CD R = CD RECORDABLE (700mb)
CD RW = CD REWRITABLE (700mb, can be reused a couple of times)
DVD R = DVD RECORABLE (4.7gb)
DVD RW = DVD REWRITABLE (4.7gb, can be used a couple of times)

If you installed a cd burner, then the only media you can use to burn stuff is CD R and CR RW, you cannot use DVD R or DVD RW. A pack of CD R are cheap, you can buy 100 cds for $20-30.

That means that you can burn new contents to it all the time provided there is still space available on the media and it is still un-finalised.

The drawback however is that previous contents burnt to the media is still there even if you 'delete' them in the burner software ( they become dead space ). Hence for example,

DVD-R ( 4.7GB )
Session 1: Burn 1GB Avis + 1GB Zip => 2.7GB space left
( Visible space = 2GB Burnt files usable + 2.7GB free space => 4.7 GB )
Session 2: Delete the Zip, retain the Avis, + 2GB Jpgs => 0.7 GB space left ( 1GB 'dead' Zip + 1GB Avis + 1GB Jpgs )
( Visible space = 3GB Burnt files usable + 0.7 GB free space => 3.7 GB )

So generally, one just keep adding files to multi-session Discs. It is pointless to delete files off, unless one decides on a design that requires such a file structure at the expense of space.

RWs allow you to delete the burnt files without the consequence of 'dead' space. Hence you can effectively use it like a floppy or flash disk or a 'hard drive on DVD/CD'. However there is a limit to the number of times you can effectively 'rewrite' but so far like Jsy3k said, technology has improved that the limit is almost likely to be unreachable ( unless you are deliberately trying to hit that limit ).

I see....one more question,if I burn mp3 into a cd,will the mp3 become damage or cannot be use?

Ok, for the multisessions, I suggest not to do it unless you are going to read the DVD from the burner that you use to burn your DVD. There is some problem with the older DVD-ROM player if you use multisession on DVD-R. Same things apply with DVD-RW.

And for your question, Oxtrich, the answer is no. Your mp3 file will still stay in the directory that you have stored in your hard disk. Second thing, what you want to burn your mp3 file into?? An audio cd or just a normal data cd??

If you want to play the music in conventional cd player where mp3 player are NOT playable, you have to burn it to an audio CD. If you burn it into an audio cd, the burner program will convert the mp3 into a format called CDDA. This format is timeline-based, so you can only burn 80 mins worth of music, which is around 18-20 musics.

If you burn into a data cd, then the mp3 file will burn into the cd without any conversion of data. This one is usually if you want to back up your mp3 files or if your conventional cd player can play mp3 files. This kind of burning is filesize-based, so it can burn up to 700 MB worth of data, which can store around 140-200 mp3 files in one cd.

one mre thing,can i burn a divx type which i can watch it at a computer into an mpegav?so i can watch it at my vcd player...

You can burn DiVX files straight onto CDs and play them on DiVX capable players ( this capability is always printed on the front of the player ). However some of them may only be able to play up to certain versions of DiVX. Note: industry standard DiVX versions are 3.11, 4.0, 5.0.

DiVX files are however unreadable on machines without DiVX playback capability. You have to convert them into a format readable by your player. This can be quite complicated.

In your case, Oxtrich, you have a VCD player. VCDs have a directory structure that must be followed. The video file has to be encoded in MPEG-1 format. It also needs some sort of an index file to be created for the player to recognise where the file is and in which order to play it.

The easiest way to do this is simply use Nero, select VCD template and dump your DiVX file in there. However Nero is picky over the kind of files it can convert, meaning certain DiVX files will fail to be converted. Also Nero is quite bad at converting the files into MPEG-1, meaning quality will be lost. Furthermore, Nero takes ages for the conversion.

The technical way which would result in quality and a bit of time saving would also require some knowledge on your part.

At the basics, you would need a MPEG encoder and a VCD image creator. TMPGEnc would be your tool to use to transcode the DiVX files into MPEG-1 files. VCDEasy is a tool that allows you to drag and drop MPEG-1 files into it and creates a VCD image. You can then burn that VCD image with any burner software. However to have it done smoothly and with quality, you should know how the tools work ( especially TMPGEnc ). Lastly the two tools mentioned are commercial software ( money!! ).

if you have 300$ to waste you should buy a DIVX capable reader IMO... just ask for some advice on players under 300$ we will answer you right away, I use a DVD player for video playback so I have to convert all the DIVX/XVID I d/l (my parents own a Toshiba SD-1800, can read VCD&DVD, no SVCD for me :'()... thrust me, if I had 300$ to waste on a DIVX-capable player I'll do it right away Smile

(btw I use tmpegenc quite often to convert videos, if you don't have a good comp. it can take lots of time)
