Well... The basic subject of this thread is that I would like to know what kinds of anime people like, even though a lot of other people don't. I know some people who still like Dragon Ball Z, but frankly, I (and a lot of other people) don't see why. Well, this is your chance to defend the unliked anime that you like. I suppose I'll get the ball rolling.
Ever since the dub was released, Yugioh has been at the head of a lot of burning, well, I watched a lot of the subs, and I can say that the dub killed it, though, what else is new? So, I came up with the top three reasons why I like that anime:
1. The main character(s) is/are flawed. The reason behind the "is/are" deal will be explained now. Yugi/Dark Yugi are not perfect characters, it's also difficult to determine which of them are the main character, I believe it's shared. Yugi is shy, naive and weak. Not exactly hero material is he? Dark Yugi on the other hand, isn't exactly Mr. Justice himself either. He is dark, willing to kill to win (as seen in his duel with Kaiba during the Duelist Kingdom arc.). Once again, not exactly hero material.
2. The story managed to successfully show that people weren't always what they wore on their sleeves, if you get my meaning. The story managed to show the duplicity of people's souls. Basically what I'm saying, is that everybody is two-faced, and the story of Yugioh managed to show it.
3. The Egyptian Sub-Story was very interesting, mostly because I'd never seen it done in anime before. Also to top it off, I find Egypt to have one of the most fascinating cultures in the world.
There. That is my long-winded (for me) account of why I like Yugioh, even though a lot of people in North America don't.

I dont like this thread. If it was used in accordance witht the lead posters internt people would probly have long drawn out word battles about why this show rocks and why that show sux but honestly, i think that already goes on in most threads. The naruto thread cant go two pages without someone chiming in to say what a bad show it is or how bad an ep was. I guess DBZ doesnt have a thread like that but i know theres a handfull out there where its badness or goodness comes up. In my opinion this thread was unneccacery. _________________ "Let them hate, so long as they fear"
Reeder i don't c y it was necessary to post y u detest this thread.
anyways, i'm still one of those ppl that like dbz as well. i consider it a classic, and i think it took some hell of an imagination to create...including all the super powers and fighting styles. relatively speaking, it was action-packed that kept many fans/ viewers glued to the t.v. screen. although it may have lacked a good storyline...it was still unique. Of course dbz still dragged out it's series w/ extra, un-needed sagas and the occasional 5 ep. power ups for each saiyan, but once u get past all that the action is fulfilling.
yu-gi-oh is another series that i find decent. many ppl dispise this series, but i think it was relatively basic, and ok....i've seen much worse so this series was bareable. the duels were interesting in my opinion, it was a different way of showing action on screen. however, it got rather dull when each character could solve every prob. with a duel.....yea talk about unrealistic. but still, the storyline itself wasn't all that bad either.....a lost king trying to find himself in lost times....not that bad....but the overplayed good vs. evil is in the series as well........but how can one go wrong w/ a good vs. evil storyline? _________________
