The series isn't exactly like the game. There was no scene in the game where Virgil and the AWGS go out to attack the Gnosis (or at least one that looked like that), for example. I could summarize the game for you, but unfortunately I only got about 15 hours in before I got bored with it.
Watched ep 2. This has an interesting story. They have laid out the different factions early on and by doing so made the past of some characters a mystery.
The most obvious question is who activated Kos-Mos and who is she taking orders from? I'm guessing it's the 100 series reliance which seems not to be the standard run of the mill kind. I also wonder if the "ghostly" form that seems to come from the Zohar and that reliance is one and the same.

Hello, I just finished watching the second episode and I have played the game, though it has been nearly a year since I beat it so there may be a few things that I either forgot or misremember, but I will try to be as accurate as possible. For those of you that don't want to know anymore about the game then please don't read any further.
]Well, the game starts with a mysterious object being found on Earth, the original Zohar. That big gold thing. Now, skip ahead about 4,000 years. Man has made space travel a day to day afair and is advancing on many different fields of science. One of the many goals of mankind is to one day reloacate the missing home world of the human race, Earth. Don't ask me how they lost it, I'm as confused as you are.
Enter Shion, an intrepid young engineer for Vector industires, a company so large and powerful it's pretty much it's own government. Head of thier first department, she is in charge of the KOS-MOS project. An unusual project to create an anti-Gnosis android. Unusual because in an age where cloning and artificial tissue are common place robots and androids are considered rather "old" technology. Supposidely obsolete.
Ah yes, before I continue on, a note on the Gnosis. No one knows who or what they are but as man kind expanded further into space he encountered the Gnosis. A new threat, I believe they first started apearing after an incident often refered to in the game and anime but as of yet not fully explained. The Miltian Conflict. They come in several varieties and shapes and are varying sizes. The largest nicknamed Cathedral ship could house an entire city in it with PLENTY of room to spare. They are slightly out of phase with normal reality but that does not seem to stop them from attacking humans. They can be brought into phase with reality through the "Hilbert Effect". A generated field that can be created only by KOS-MOS and 100 series Realians. Though the realians field is rather small. A room at best. When hooked up to special equipment in a ship like the Woglinde (the ship Shion is on) they can generate a larger field. Hence why the captian needed the 100 series on the bridge before she could generate the field.
As for the Miltian Conflict, basically, there was a war between U-TIC and the government and the doctor responsible for the creation of the 100-series Realians, the Zohar Emulators (copies of the original Zohar), and so much more died there. Dr. Mizuhari is often blamed for summoning the Gnosis into this reality.
Lets see, there's really a LOT of information and I will not cover everything but I'll try to clear some things up. If you have any questions please ask and I'll try to answer them. As for KOS-MOS, not much in known about her even though she is one of the main characters. She is under mysterious orders that no one knows where she got them. Including Shion, who is especially frustrated since she's the one that essentually rebuilt her. The KOS-MOS prototype was designed and build by Shions lover an individual suspected of being the apprentice of Dr. Mizuhari. The prototype was destroyed by Shion. KOS-MOS contains many functions and weapons that Shion did not know about, further confusing her.
OK, so lets start with differences between the anime and game. Whew, there's quite a bit so far.
First, the game the Gnosis didn't unphase for a second like Virgil (the guy with the scared up face) said when fighting them in space. They just attacked and killed everything with no hope in sight. Second, Albedo didn't show up and never attacked the ship. He's later in the game. Third, the 100 series RealianS, as in plural, were not there. Their series was not mass produced yet so the Woglinde didn't have any. Fourth, the Kirschwieser (sp?) realian, the one pretending to be a 100 series, the one Shion gives the bunny charm to never had any real speaking roles and never made contact with Shion on the Woglinde. They don't even show up until later. And then they are all almost mute.
Yes, THEY. Albedo has something like 100 of them. Too pass the time he often amuses himself by killing them one by one listening to their bones snap and fleash tear. They were also created by Dr. Mizuhari but abandoned. Left behind Albedo took them in and lavished his attention on them (see above "killing them one by one ......."). They are completely loyal to Albedo and willingly die for him in a sick display of love and desperatate need for human contact.
Anyway, fifth, Shion is a lot braver in the game. She didn't need a realian to save her. In the game Virgil, two AGWS (anti gnosis weapon system, the mech things ) and a squad of combat type realians lie in wait on the ship for the Gnosis. Shion rounds the corner and they all open fire. They miss Shion by some remarkable stroke of luck but Shion is PISSED. Yes, shes running for her life, people are dying, the gnosis and attacking and now she's being shot at by her own people. She get angry, not all weepy like the anime. Also, ass the gnosis advance, Virgil takes Shions personal computer and inputs a command to the Realians overriding their conciousness and makes them all, wounded and well, the charge the gnosis and initiate a self destruct. Shion screams at Virgil for his heartlessness and demands to know how he even knew of that command. He responds by pointing out that it was her computer that had it in the first place.
During the Miltia Conflict Realians attacked humans and thus after the conflict, Vector the maker of Realians had that command put in and given to all high ranking personel like Shion.
Sixth, Andrew never dies in the game. Well not on the Woglinde anyway. A spy for the U-TIC, he is the one that tags along with Shion and her assistant what's his name. Virgil was the one that died. In the hangar Virgil and KOS-MOS engage the Gnosis and save Andrew. Virgil gets tooo close to the Gnosis and KOS-MOS can't get a clear shot. Calculating that he's a dead man anyway, she opens fire with her twin triple barrel gattling guns and mows Virgil down. Virgil has one last image of a woman "Feb..." and dies. (Or so it seems, at the end of the game he shows up again resurrected working for Vector and with Telepathing powers that he's still getting used to. All this build up the plot of the second game yet to be released state side).
There's probably more that I missed but I thing those are the main ones. Hope this helps someone.
I can't seem to create an account for myself either! Is there some moderator I could contact?
From what I know, they aren't accepting new members until they finish some business with moving or something to that effect. Until then tough luck.
I think you pretty much covered the differences. We won't know how many more there will be until the plot advances. But considering they squeezed so much into these episodes, I'm sure we'll get some storyline from the second game as well. That'll be interesting to say the least.

Hi, I would just like to say thank you to the person who included the spoiler white out on my post. Thanks! I really didn't want to accidentially spoil anything for anyone with that post.
Anyway, just one more difference and then I'm done for the day.
KOS-MOS also didn't have any restraining armor. When you first get her, her visor is down but other than that what you saw was what you got. That's it.
Well, thanks again to everyone and hope that this series comes out alright.
the first two was nicely done, Can't wait for the 3rd episode, even though i kinda know what happens since i've somewhat played the beginning of the game
Just finished the third episode. It felt a little slow, slower than teh other two. But it was nice seeing the guy who was manipulating KosMos. I don't recall seeing him in the game, but I haven't played that in a 'long' time so I might have forgotten. At least the next episode looks promising.
By the way, does anyone know when the 2nd game is gonna be released?
3rd ep:
So basically Kos-Mos orders regarding Zohar were given in secret by the top dog at Vector.
If I understood it correctly, somewhere in Kos-Mos lies the ghost of Shion's eldest sister(?). Which would explains why she protect Shion above all else. However the question would be how did her ghost end up in Kos-Mos? The story keeps getting more interesting.
I personally didn't like the story of Xenosaga until about halfway into the game.
I find the conflict between Rubido and Albedo more interesting than Shion and the rest of the gang.
I've only watched the first 2 eps of the anime and somehow it doesn't seem worth it to watch if you've already played the game. If you haven't played the game though, then you should watch the anime cuz the story is pretty good (would be bad if they ended it the same way as the game though)

For a guy who had no experience with Xenosaga whatsoever, the anime ( at episode 3 now ) prove to be a fairly entertaining watch so far. Love that KOS-MOS.
I loved the game, have played it several times. It's in the PS2's "greatest hits" category now, I see it at Target & Costco regularly. The 2nd game comes out next month.
I was very excited about the anime when I first heard of it, & have watched the first three now. The plot so far does take a couple of changes from the game, which doesn't much bother me, but I am having a hard time which the animation quality....it looks real low-budget to me. Maybe it's because the game was such high quality, but I really am unhappy with the whole look of the series. I'll keep downloading it, though.
I can't remember; can you read the captain of the Elsa's hat in the show? It's funny as hell in the game, beautiful Engrish.

i love the game and i'm very excited about the anime searies release of xenosaga can wait to see it. I hope is as good as the game and if not is o.k the creaters will learn from their mistakes and try again. I wish it look.
so far the reviews are not that bad is expected to have a little criticism since we have the game to compare it to. I've seen reviews that say the animation quality is not as good as the game, and i hope it is. i don't want to have the feeling that i'm playing the game instead of watching a anime series.
Anywhoo!
