Haha, nice on the pickup of songs. For some of the ones you missed...
My Funny Valentine (Rod Stewart)
Speak Like a Child (Style Council (no clue who they are though...)
Brain Scratch (Scratching is a technique used by DJ's to make that "wok-wokka" sound)
Hard Luck Woman (KISS)
Still lost on Pierrot Le Fou |

Thanks for the references.
Now if we could only figure out Pierrot Le Fou. In French it means Pierrot the crazy one. It is definitely not a reference to music in general.
I can't belive I forgot, but Toys in the Attic is also a reference to a song by Aerosmith. I remembered the Pink Floyd reference because it is a line in one of the songs ("The Trial" I think) on The Wall. Since it is also the title of a song by Aerosmith that means that that episode has at least two references |

If you go to the real folk blues website, they have a really comprehensive list of all the title references, they also have different music/movies/pop culture references throughout the show.
I Love love love love cowboy bebop, its one of my favorite things, just putting that out there. |

| yup the show is a big mish mosh of everything pop culture, and almost all of it is American pop culture, with very few Japanese references, that's why the show was so accessible to Americans, plus the music was amazing. |

| The best thing about Bebop was the sound tracks. Very catch blues songs with that Japan influance. |

-_- ...
The best thing, I think, about CB is the story. Ofcorse, the music is also good (very good at that), but it's definetly not better than the story: like when Spike says: "Bang!" |

|
|
I recently went and watched this show again and I was somewhat surprised that I had not picked up on why spike needed to die to make the story complete.
Obviously the reason is because of Vicious, but the story only very briefly hints at the details. Basically Spike and Vicious were trusted friends, perhaps even brothers. Julia was Vicious' lover, but Spike falls in love with her, and they have an affair together. Spike is the guilty adulteror here and decides that the only chance for happiness for him and Julia is to flee. Of course, Vicious finds out about it all and offers Julia the chance of repentance by way of killing spike. Despite Julia's disloyal past, in the end she sticks with Spike and chooses to risk Vicious' vengence.
Although we are led to believe that Vicious is a kind of stereotypical bad guy with no conscience, really, he is judged too harshly if you don't look at things from his perspective. There seems to be some evidence that he wasn't always so cold hearted, but like many men whose love betrays them, he became bitter, and probably earned his namesake after that.
So spike had to die because he deserved it for betraying his best friend. Vicious had to die because he stopped caring and became corrupt.
this is certainly elaboration compared to what is explained in the anime, but it's not mere speculation because there is a bit evidence for every plot point mentioned; though it is often only a brief unnnarrated scene that doesn't last long. I got the impression that the writers didn't want to focus too much on the love triangle aspect of the plot, which I agree was a good decision since it is very clishe.
Still, it is too bad about spike the roamer(io) & Julia(et). |
