Just as I was watching a preview for this movie, a thought popped into my head. What if this Van Hellsing movie is like a pre pre prelude to the Hellsing anime/manga. It was said that the Hellsing organization is a family thing, so maybe Van Hellsing is the originator of it.
I only read volume 1 of the Hellsing manga so my knowledge of the story is mostly from the anime. |

Could very well be based on the same Family and legend. I'm not very familiar with vampires, transavania, etc.
But I have a feeling that the anime/manga took parts from the legend as does this new movie. _________________

The anime and the movie are completely unrelated but yeah, they are based on the same thing. You can think of this Van Helsing guy as the ancestor of Integral Hellsing.
I remember I read something about this... Oh, yeah, here it is:

Btw I think the movie will be cool, Stephen Sommers is pretty good at making shallow but entertaining blockbusters.
Oh, yeah, and in the movie it's Helsing, not Hellsing (what was it... "Her Royal England Legions of Legitimate Supernatural and Immortal Night Guard", sounds ridiculous) |

Don't forget that the movie is based on the precept "Oh wow wouldn't it be cool to have one fella fighting all the old horror movie icons!"
I had watched the downloaded trailer a few months back and was quite wary. The CG then did not seem to mesh well with the background. A friend of mine who just saw the big-screen trailer say that he didn't notice. Possibly they cleaned it up already... I'll wait for some reviews first before going to watch though... |

Judging from the new trailer the movie will be lots of mindless fun.
Looks like the story will be centered mostly on Dracula, the other monsters seem to be aound just to spice things up (supposedly Romania is something like monster land and Van Helsing goes there to find Dracula's castle...)

The CG is just as cheap as in The Mummy and Mummy Returns but that's not bothering, really. Looks ok and some of the settings are beautiful. |

Uhm, how about you go back and read the other posts before yours that have already answered AngelKing's question in detail? |

Thx, the battle on pointless spam can't be won alone ^^
I looked around the web a little and heres what I found:
http://www.ucs.mun.ca/~emiller/VHelsing.htm
After reading that I'm pretty sure both the manga and the new movie are inspired by the same thing. The Anime just adapts it to the present time period. |

Just saw Van Helsing.
You know, Hollywood films are quite amazing these days. Take this movie for example. I can say everything there is to say about it in just two sentences. It looked neat. It had action. That's all. I can almost imagine the director giving a briefing "All right guys, I've got a good news and a bad news. The good news is we're going to make a 120 minute movie. The bad news is more than 100 of these minutes will be all out action with short suspense breaks (until a gross monster comes out to scare the audience, how cool would that be!). So let's keep character development very short and simple (even better if we can use one-liners to do it) and we can do most of the story development during the action scenes." This movie always seems to be in such a rush. All the time our guys and gal are a) chasing monsters b) running away from monsters or c) fighting monsters. There's barely a one or two minute break here and there to throw in some explanation of what's going on and even then there's a hurry to free more time for the next werewolf or vampire fight. Underworld is like Godfather compared to this movie.
Well... at least the automatic crossbow was cool, gotta give it that. |

I thought this post was about Hellsing... I guess it just melted into non-historical nonsequitor talk about Van Helsing, which by the way has nothing to do with the historical Helsing, or Hellsing the anime.
Hellsing as an anime was okay (and relied on Alucard's awesomeness to get by). The manga was much better and actually has a plot compared to the anime (whose plot was invented not by the manga-ka, but by the animators). The best part about the anime was the soundtrack. I just liked some of the music for some reason.
Can't wait for the next manga to come out! |
