Why do fansubbers have such retarded names?

Well, I know my SN is pretty unique... Even if you search for me on Google, all you'll find are other message boards in which I've posted in and some poems (there also used to be a "darkhunger.com" which is a porn site... But I guess I've outlasted them... Shocked

)

But anyway, yup, SN's don't matter... "Darkhunger" sounds stupid but frankly, who cares? Everyone's SN's sound either stupid or unoriginal.

Actually, while I'm in the mood for a bit of musing I'll rant a bit further:

I came upon the trouble of choosing a name for myself recently when I had to come up with an artist's name so that I could create an account to upload music to (oh, for those who aren't aware, I write music when I'm not watching anime or picking on people). After many false starts I came to realise that the last thing you want to do when choosing a name is to try and be clever. If you try and be clever what'll happen is that either:

1) people will love it and proclaim you a poet
2) people will see through it and think you're a pompous dick
3) people won't get it and think you're a smartalec prick

So any name that makes a statement, is political, ironic or any of these things is a bad move. The best names in music, or even on this website, are the ones that mean nothing at all. Take "Squarepusher" or "Eels" and compare these with "Linkin Park" or (God help them) "Metallica." Which sound old already?

On this website, I particularly like:
Kuzals
Kfute
Specky
Frundock

Names that don't have such longevity (please don't get offended guys, but):
Macerboy
Angelking
DarkHunger (it has to be done; you were a porn site!)
NinjadeathJesus? Kei, wtf were you thinking man?

Finally there's the worst category of them all. The pompous, smartalec prick:
Generic-fucking-coolname Rolling Eyes

You ever wish that you had thought harder about what you were doing before hitting the "submit" button?

i just don't like names such as "Something-sama" or "Something-san"
it'd be considered very impolite to call yourself "sama" or "san", wouldn't it??

and really, gen's right. nicknames are merely a way to distinguish one of us from another; there's not really any meaning in them.

a few people i know online know my real name and I, theirs. (ddog, sage, for examples) but those are the exceptions because we talk to eachother a *lot*

I don't really care about the names people give themselves. I always think the more idiotic the name is the more stupid comments it will get, the more stupid comments it will get the funnier the name will become. I mean just look at this

Well a couple years ago I would have aggred with this post. I started useing Bedlam66 on everything just to keep things in my head right. (when you vist 100 sites a month it's nice to have the same username for each of them makes things less compilcated) But now I write storys for different sites Lemons and whatnot all useing Bedlam66 as my screen name It's kind of nice having people give me feedback on stuff I write, and I even see people saying in storys they write that MY storys were the ones that made them want to write their own that's really cool to me. Yea some of them are stupid but they aren't ment to be really anything more then something to let the people who like the stuff they do know that Angelking worked on this or Darkhunger worked on that.

exactly, they are doing what they do for the anime community so just appreciate waht they do becuz whatever name they do chose, someone out there will think its stupid so why care about that.
