"That won't even give you a bitchslap!"
I wonder how many of those sub-fanatics will defend A-Kraze as "good faithful translations" then.
But imagine if those were the words in the dubbed version in the future (when it gets to be shown in America) |

Actually that's not even the worst example Here's some good laughs:
"If I had to live each day knowing you bastards were in charge, I'd rather stretch as far as I can and die." <----
A-K: "Beat this insolent fool."
AF-F: "Kill this insolent man."
A-K: "Don't fuck around." (basically adding "fuck" and "shit" wherever possible )
AF-F: "Don't joke with me."
A-K: "I make that shit every time Mr. Sun comes up. Maybe today will be the last day for sunbathing."
AF-F: "I think that every day the sun rises, it may be the last time I bask in the sun."
etc., etc....
Naked child events, anybody? |

If anything, this might win the worst translation of the year contest
Maybe I should download A-Kraze's version for a laugh. Can anyone confirm whether they were doing Samurai Champloo as a joke? That could save their hide...
Edit: I did some eh... snooping... A-Kraze's translation group is standing firm on their version and their supporters are coming up with "oh it fits his character" as their reason. Not all of A-Kraze and their viewers agree though but it seems that A-Kraze's Samurai Champloo will continue on with the homie-Mugen & da hood. |

| I thought that this anime ROCKED !! Very stylish and experimental, and if the story and characters can match that of Cowboy Bebop then all is good in the world of anime. I think the writer from Cowboy Bebop is working on this one too. |

wait, bebop had a plot? =P champloo is pretty unique as far as samurai shows go. mugan is badass, with steel plated sandels and all. other guy (forget his name atm ^^;; ) is badass as well, in the more traditional samurai frame of refence. eagerly awaitn ep2 =D _________________

Actually, it's probably just FujiTV's crappy scheduling... If anything the broadcast of this will probably not be nearly as regular as "once every two weeks".
BTW I'm not sure I translated the episode title for Ep 2 correctly (I submitted that info to ANN)... So if anyone thinks its wrong please correct me. |

Thanks for the notes on the translations. I had originally grabbed the A-K sub since they had done a good job with Area 88 and some of Paranoia Agent, but that's taking things too far. The AF-F sub sounds good.
This reminds me of the A-M sub for Cromartie, and while the coarse language suited the delinquent highschool scene, I always wondered whether they had embelished a lot? And why the heck it ended abruptly at ep.15... the show was too funny. |

Episode 1 is wrong if you ask me...
疾風怒濤 【しっぷうどとう】 "storm and stress" is what I am finding in my dictionary. Though if you take the two compounds apart you get 疾風 【しっぷう】 which is the squall, gale, hurricane, fresh breeze part that can also be read as "hayate" (Where have we heard that one before? *Cough* FMA *Cough* Yebyosh's avatar *Cough*) and 怒濤 【どとう】 which by itself means high/surging waves or raging billows.
As for ep. 2...
百鬼夜行 【ひゃっきやぎょう】 a veritable pandemonium; a large number of people plotting and doing evil; a scandalous scene
I'd say your translation for the second one is good enough. ^^; Though depending on what ends up as ep. 2's content the last one might be funny and/or fitting too. ^_-
Japanese is FUN of EVERYONE! Combine Kanji! Get completely different readings and meanings! Yaaaaay~!
P.S. Sorry to anyone that doesn't have the Japanese character patch for explorer installed as this post probably looks like a big pile of poo. |
