That's entirely subjective. I think you're just unconciously resenting something a bit different from the usual.

Who says a "plot" is the one thing that makes a show/whatever great. That's a very limited understanding in my opinion.
Anyway, here we go for another opinion clash... |

No, I've watched anime with all kinds of character designs. Unorthodox designs do not mean that they have to be ugly like those in this anime.

Wha? Limited understanding of what? And yeah, who says that? I didn't. But IMO the lack of plot made Cowboy Bebop not as good as it could have been. And since I'm not fond of the art in this anime nor the concept of mixing samurai and hip-hop (which is a dumb concept in the first place), I'm hoping that a plot might at least make this worthwhile to watch for me. |

Having watched the raw, I would say the art is impressive.
Yes, Mugen is ugly but I don't think he is supposed to be drawn to be a bishounen hero. Jin is drawn as the cool hard guy. Fuu is your cute mischievious girl image. I would not call the designs ugly but they convey the basic characteristics of the roles played. The usage of colours in the scenes was good (though RAW quality was terrible.
I cannot bray about the hiphop music as I'm neither a fan nor pay special attention to them. Since it didn't grate on my nerves, I have nothing negative against it.
The fights are excellent. Funny how Fuji TV is part of the team but Gantz got the massive censorship chops. Merciless and fast. Mugen's Champloo style doesn't look entirely out of place with Jin's orthodox methods.
However there are some things that made me wonder how good will this series be. I hate the scenes transitions. The rubbing in and out effects only serve to amplify or make it seem that the transition was very disjointed. I was practically getting irked everytime they do that.
Then what happened to them when the teahouse caught fire?! They only had Mugen going through a dream sequence but failed to state how they got captured so easily (perhaps in the conversation, but I failed to capture any detail on it).
The first episode still entertained me though (just throw those transition effects away...). Willing to see this series.
Ain't those eyes on the squirrel huge?! Kawaii~!!! |

lol... Actually, I was just kidding. I was planning to watch this all along... Just want to do something like this to an anime you like to see what you're reaction is...
I'm not the kind of person who judges a show without even watching it, after all... |

Ahm, the roof cave in on them. Given Mugen's dream, it's very likely that they're both knocked unconscience. |

That's quite an assumption being since that Governor's son (the blonde thug in addidas tracksuit) was burnt alive in that fire. If Mugen & Jin were knocked unconcious, how can they still be alive since the whole place burnt to the ground?
It could be true. But in that case, this series seems to have that "immortal heroes" syndrome... |

well i grabbed the raw and enjoyed it even tho i barely understood 4-5 lines in the whole show
im just wondering what the chances are of this following a similar story line to bebop (with the same kinda ending too - doesn't seem impossible after that start) _________________

This ep has no hints of how it will develop but if I judge from the ED it probably won't be just stylish samurai fights. I hope it'll be 26 eps so we can get to know the characters and the weird setting.
Btw Production IG also has a samurai show coming in July - http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=3972
Director: Nishikubo Toshihiko (GITS, Innocence sequence direction)
Original character designer: Tajima Shou (Kill Bill character designer)
Character designer: Kise Kazuchika (Innocence supervising animator)
Art director: Kobayashi Shichiro (Angel's Egg)
It might be an exceptionally good year for samurai shows |

The director according to http://movie.goo.ne.jp/cast/94574/ (and ANN) is actually Nishikubo Mizuho. That's a different person from Nishikubo Toshihiko (西久保利彦)
I've fixed the other names on the ANN page though... Apparently the guy who submitted them didn't know how to romanize some of those names. |

Yeah, the Bakafish subs aren't bad. The anime however, sucks hard.
Just kidding. Very good first episode We needed a fun show to watch in this era of shows with more talk than animation, and this is definitely it. Looking forward to more. |
