One word: codec.
Do you have the required codec to play your video?? Try to install some of the codecs like DivX, XviD, Ogm Video and MKVs. _________________

he probably doesn't, the reason he can hear the sound but can watch the movie is: audio stream encoded in mp3 most of the time & mp3 is included in windows (and most of the OS I know) but mp4 codecs are usually to be downloaded

Go download VLC Player. It can play virtually almost any media files, including .ogm, .mkv, etc. No codecs needed for this program.

Make sure you have installed the right codecs by using a program called gspot which you can get here
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
This program displays the codec needed to play the file which if you search in google you can easily find.
An easier way would be to use VLC media player as liang suggested. |

Video LAN Client is the best place to start. It ain't perfect, but it's the first player I try for a video file.

the damn seek bar ?
You have to update the program to update the codecs, VLC is just an alternative to downloading codecs, I prefer to use codecs. I use them to encode video (can't do it with VLC). _________________

Minor problem that's a bit of a pain so hopefully someone can help me out. I'm having trouble playing video files encoded with divx3. All files encoded with anything above that plays fine. Right now I only have the xvid codec installed but I've tried ffdshow, divx, and xvid all by themselves and in pairs and nothing. I see some of you have mentioned using VLC but I rather like using The Core Media Player. Unfortunately, I can never remember what I did to make them all work without a problem. It's a small problem but it's bugging the hell out of me, so if someone can help me out that'd be great.
