The best 2D stylke fighting game would have to be Tekken 5, because it is just that awesome. However, if you get together with a group of friends and want to just kick beck, and not have to worry about combos or anything, Super Smash is the way to go.

My vote went to Guilty Gear. The version we always use is Guilty Gear XX. Reloaded wasn't released here for some reason, and Isuka was a dissapointment (you need to turn even in 1-on-1 battles???).

Don't get me wrong, the other games are amazing (mostly), and we constantly play them, but we all agree that GGXX is one of those games where you can really show some skill. In the usual 3D fighter, I can;t help but think that there's an element of luck involved, especially the likes of DOA, and to a much lesser extent, Soul Caliber too (my friend will kill me for saying that).

Back to GGXX, it's the only fighting game where we get matches of such intensity even an audience would be excited. Usually, only the players get into the flow, but with GGXX, anyone watching will feel the tension. Although, we have an unspoken rule: no Instant Death attacks. We're no cowards, but we feel it just deflates the mood.

Instant Death is funny sometimes, i did in XBL and everytime someone disconnected because they lost. So i went back to using Faust and giving people kanchos (jabs in the ass)

I have got to go with Capcom vs SNK. My friends and I have played it almost everyday for 3 years. I thought CvSNK2 was better for a while but I saw the light. CvSNK is definitely better. It is funny that we're still finding new techniques and moves even now. The game rules!!!

I enjoy a lot of fighting games but I said Super Smash Bros.

A lot of people disagree with that but I think Super Smash Bros. is a way different turn on fighting games than a lot of others. It's simplistic enough to be played by young ones but has enough complex moments for adults, making it enjoyable for all ages. The levels interact with you a lot more than many other games. I'll rather have fast paced levels where I have to jump from platform to platform while trying to defeat my opponent at the same time, other than the typical, knock your opponent into a wall and fall into a different enviroment.

If you played one of the typical fighting games, then you played them all. Supper Smash Bros. was the other game up there with a real original spark. I could play Super Smash Bros. for hours, while only playing the other list of game for a good few minutes before letting out a yawn.

The complex isn't in the controls, but more in the fast pacing battles. The thing about Super Smash Bros. is that standing still and waiting for your opponent isn't an option, in order to win a battle your have to stay in movement and you have to keep thinking. Despite how mcuh you may deny or how good the other traditional fighting games may be, it's all the same button mashing game. Buttom mashing in Super Smash Bros. only gives you a garuanteed demise.

Super Smash Bros. is somethign different than other fighting games and that's why it has so many fans.

Thats easy, Soul Caliber, because of its simple yet complex controls, the diversity of the weapons, and the beutiful garaphics this one is head and shoulders above the rest.

Button Mash on any game i play, go ahead.
I'll give you a list even.
-Street Fighter 2 to CvS2
-Tekken 1-5
-Soul Calibur 1-2
-Guilty Gear
-Melty Blood
-What the hell i'll even throw in Bloody Roar and DoA

Any fighting game is all about timing.
Scenario in Street Fighter
(wait you can't button mash here at all because every move has a breaking point!)
Soul Calibur 2
(i'll give you the pure advantage here)
You are Raphael Button Mashing -> B B B
I am also Raphael, Guarding. Obvious, since i'm using Guard I must be atleast a little better to know how to guard impact or sidestep or even circular motion and repoiste.
This button mashing thing may work on people that play badly or just lacked the coordination or insight.

Just my 2 Cents on Button Mashing.

Super Smash Brothers has so many fans is because all those fans are either Link,Mario,Pokemon and Metroid Fans. Through the combination of their huge fanbase you have SSB fanbase.

The only thing SSB i think has is the vast amounts of characters avaliable that everyone likes. This is because i have never played in an arcade where an idiot chooses Zangief,Ivy,I-No,Nina and Tohno Shiki

Simply Stating
