I believe it had 64 characters.
My favorite were: Glenn, Kidd, Harle, Lazzly, Rena, and so many more... it had lot of great characters, though I wish it offered little more character development for each character rather than just have many different characters. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]
Chrono Cross was a good one time play. I can't really recall much of the story line except that Chrono Trigger had something to do with what happens in Chrono Cross.
In Chrono Cross you are travelling between dimensions, one where the main character doesn't exist and you basically play though finding out everything as you go along so what is there not to get?
Ugh... Chrono Cross disappointed me so much... only three or four of your characters ever really get developed, despite the fact that there are forty or so to recruit in the game. The story doesn't really kick in until MUCH later in the game - there's a little bit at the beginning of the game, but then it just sorta gets put on hold for ten or so hours. The battle system was okay, it just took a little longer then I'd like for regular enemies (and I fear any white element boss), but if I'm not a fan of the story and characters, no battle system will save a game for me. I hate to be the one jerk that hates the game that everyone else loves, but here I have to be honest: I wish I had my money back. Sorry, CC fans.
PS: Chrono Trigger was AWESOME though.
It's alright to have your own opinion about it , as long as you don't force it upon others. I fell in love with the game as soon as the intro, "Time's Scar" finished playing. "Radical Dreamers" that played during the ending made me love the game even more. So, you can say I like games because of the music and soundtracks.
If 40+ characters is a lot, try Konami's Suikoden series. There's 108 characters (though not all of them get to participate in battles) for all Suikoden I, II, III and IV, and the eventual Suikoden V.
By the way, I've never played Chrono Trigger before. How is it gameplay-wise? And oh, a little comments on the game soundtrack would help too.
sadly, I didn't understand English back in the days of Chrono Trigger, and just can't find any time to mess around with it now. My first Chrono Cross safe was corrupted. The 2nd time around, my brother erased it. Finally, the 3rd time around, the disc finally broke down, so I never finished it. I personally adore the soundtrack--it's playing on my iTunes as I am typing. I like everything about both of the games, and I love the combat system in Chrono Cross--it's unique, it's fun, it requires strategy. I also love storyline of any games that have to do with time and dimension in the first place, and Chrono Cross did very well in delivering an interactive universe and a sense of intertwining between the 2 universes. I admit, it does seem to lack its tie to Trigger, making it a ..bad sequel? But then, sequels do not always have to be tied together anyway.
I really should buy a second hand Chrono Cross and play again...with all the people who doesn't like it, I bet it'd be cheap ^^

Heh I was so hyped about this game for almost a full year before it even got released. I'd be reading things about the Japanese version of the game on the web and looking at screenshots.
When the game came out, it didn't disappoint me. It held up to its hype and it remains as one of my favorites on PSX, even more than FF7.
If you haven't played the Chrono Trigger, I guarantee that it'll be fun playing it. It's pure fun in the form of SNES cartridge. Go download the ROM or buy the PSX version, or do whatever it takes, get it and play it ASAP. Even to this day, Chrono Trigger remains as my most enjoyed game of all time.
The battle system in CT relied heavily on Combo tech skills, where 2 or 3 characters can trigger a powerful combo skill that derives from solo skills of each character. Also, the skills depend on character/enemy battle formations. e.g. a skill that attacks in straight line will damage any enemies in the line.
If you didn't know, Chrono Cross's Soundtrack borrows from many of Chrono Trigger's themes. If you played the CT, the music in CC will feel very familiar. In my opinion, CT's music was much more memorable than CC's. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]

Yeah, I want to find out if my friend was just trying to deprive me of something, so that he could keep it for himself. He did that alot. Problem is that Chrono Cross, is no longer being made. PSX versions of anything are becoming rare. I wish I had gotten it, cuz I've seen some screenshots, and a demo-movie, and DANG it looks good. But I can't find it

It's not too late, you could probably find it easily at your local game stores as used or new. They have greatest hits version of the game so it should be easy to find even if it's not being made. You can also ebay it, i just looked it up and there was one being sold at $12 US. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]
