The Good: F*** it there was no good. Life has turned on me and has been punching me in the face for the past two weeks.

The Bad: The husband had his dreams crushed when he found out that the Army won't take in anyone with a GED. Luckily he's young enough to get his diploma.

Hey phoenix, since your husband isn't gonna be in the army until he gets his diploma, isn't it better for you as you can now spend more time with him before he does go.

The Good: Tomorrows Friday already.

The Bad: Windows 7 will come out before I get my pay, so by the time I have cash it may be hard to find.

The Good: it finally supposed to stop raining tomorrow! The weather we've been having (rain interspersed with occasional hours of threatening, gloomy clouds) is depressing as hell. We're supposed to have a week of excellent fall weather, though: 60s and 70s (high teens, low 20s C) and partly cloudy. I could use a nice pick-me-up.

The Bad: I biked 15 miles, I studied 6 hours, and I'm still dealing with some weird fatigue condition the doctors are clueless about, so I'm intensely tired. Plus I'm still not done with my basic overall review for Step 1 before I start doing practice questions, which I've been advised to do for at least 4-6 weeks. Med school really does involve a lot of not fun.

That's funny. While the rain might stop tomorrow for you mstice, it's gonna start raining here for a while. Luckily, they only predict thunderstorms so the rain won't stay for long.

The Good: The weekend has started.

The Bad: I got nothing to do.

The Good: The weekend is ending. Windows 7 is due to be out this Thursday coming. Will be paid on Friday. My computer may be fixed by the weekend.

The Bad: The usual forum members haven't been too active this weekend.

Good: I got a propane torch! It was free!

No. Put the fire extinguisher down, there's nothing to be afraid of.

Also good: parts coming for my new computer around Thursday.

Bad: I accidentally bought a part I couldn't afford yet. Hopefully, the seller will be willing to either reverse the purchase or give me time for my funds to transfer.

Hey Lone, I though you were gonna be busy getting all your information in for your security clearance application? Have you finished already?

The Good: Decided to get back on the bicycle after many years. I wonder if I remember how to ride the damn thing.

The Bad: There could be pain in the near future.

My advice is to buy some biking shorts. If you're like me and refuse to wear external spandex, they now make regular looking shorts with a padded spandex lining. Also, helmets are for sissies.

I was waiting on one last piece of information when I posted that. I got it turned in yesterday, just in time.

Good(yesterday): Got my paperwork turned in just in time, finished two Embedded System Design labs, got invited to guest-sing in that band I quit(They want to cover a couple of System of A Down songs, and I'm a natural at the lead singer's vocal style), got invited to be the psycho in an RP party, got a new microcontroller to play with, got a $250 bonus at work, and parts for my new computer arrived.

Bad: didn't finish all of my ESD labs(ESD stands for Electro Static Discharge! Keeps throwing me off when I hear it associated with my class.), temporary emotional regression.

My family is full of cyclists. Most of them have calmed down with their cycling, but at one point they would easily cycle 400 km (248 miles) a week. My dad is still crazy and is training for the Cape Epic, where he has to do 800 km (497 miles) in 8 days on a mountain bike.

The Good: I still remember how to ride a bike.

The Bad: The saddle on the bike I rode felt like it was made of stone.

Bad: hard drive cost $21 in shipping charges more than I was expecting.

Hey Lone, how much cash have you spent on your new computer co far? Is it still a laptop? What are the specs?

The Good: I start my guitar lessons today.

The Bad: My hands are like raw meat due to the playfulness of my kitten.

Including shipping on the drive I bought last night, $140.

Yep

1.8 Ghz dual-core Turion 64, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon X1200.

It's a serious step up from my old laptop, but it's still a mid-range model from 2007, which puts it below most low-end models from 2009.

Geez, my laptop is 3 1/2 years old now. I think I paid $1800 for it and I could assemble a better one myself for under $150-200 now. Still, it works well enough for me and I don't demand much from my system, so aside from the battery replacement, I got no real complaints.

As far as the parts I'm using right now, I've only spent about $80. The machine I'm upgrading from cost me $250, and is a low-end 2007 machine.

I once knew someone whose Macbook Air cost her $1800. Both machines were roughly equal in performance and purchase date.

It's foolish to buy top-of-the line tech, because if you ride just behind the leading edge, you can get something with 80% of the power for 50% of the price, with even better deals if you're careful. Besides that, the average user doesn't need much more than is required to run your chosen operating system. What's more, the typical gamer probably stresses his machine far less than someone who, say, dabbles in computer graphics or video editing. Most people use their computers to check E-mail and play Solitaire.

It is at least nice to have something I can run Portal on, though!
