| As my topic suggests, is there any good software recommendations for these two kinds of rippers? This is because I need to rip them to MPEG/AVI format. Thanks. |

| virtualdub - it'S a programm i use. i'm not sure if it has a ripping option, but you can save your files in avi or other types |

google for DVD2AVI or DVD2OGM... both rip to a raw format that can be imported to avi then encoded by virtualdub or whatever you want.
or if you're on a Mac you can get HandBrake. it does all that with just a few clicks  |
