Using emulators plus game ROMs for systems that have not ceased producing games is illegal and should not be used in general. Under the Millenuim Copyright Act, users are prohibited from emulating games that are supported on a console that still has games developed for it.
There was recently a clause added to that bill that allows older (SNES and NES i.e) games to be emulated, since they are obsolete consoles, and Nintendo is no longer making profits from their sales, only the person(s) distributing them.
Usage of current day game ROMs is a crime, and is a dispicable act against the industry. By stealing a developers software and playing it for free, you are taking money away from that developer, and in turn, hurting thier chance to make a fiscal victory with their product. Doing this means you don't give a shit about the industry, and have no respect for them as well. If you want to go try a game, then go to your local video store, and if 5$ is too much for you, than that is pretty damn sad.
I work at an EB Games as you probably heard me spout on a previous post.
ROMs are what are helping to make games more expensive. It also makes it so that the games you love won't get sequels.
News flash.
A games sales numbers determine sequels. Not how many of you run out there and pirate it.
I do own NES Roms, but only because that's now quasi legal.
And though I work at an EB Games, I do believe emulating titles that never came to us is alright.
But yeah. Unless the console is dead or we aren't getting it. Cut it out. You're only hurting yourself in the end.
Especially gamecube, thats just suicide for the sytem.
