| Hey, that's what I have, 2600, but on an ASUS. Nice CPUs, overclocks like crazy. I'm running mine constantly on a 20% OC, which makes 2.3Ghz, at least beat out the 3.0Ghz P4's. |

lol evo, even my G4 PowerBook beat the pants off of a 3.06GHz P4 (my dad's toshiba lappy... brand new)
and it was just "1.0GHz" with a 512K cache _________________ [13:42] * Is pokes Smeggster

Picclo: Ur just old school, learn to accept new things, AMD is the trend right now.
Is: LOL, but then I doubt a laptop is very good, laptops are horrendously slow. |

evofire: actually laptop CPUs compete with desktop CPUs quite well... the reason most people think laptops are slow is hard drive speeds.
most lappies come with 4200rpm drives (most companies are just now switching to 5400rpm) whereas pretty much every desktop has 7200rpm with 8MB cache (Apple now uses 5400rpm w/ 8MB cache in their laptops )
and now that everyone is moving to SATA and SATA2 the gap seems even bigger. so yeah... lappy CPUs are quite good, actually _________________ [13:42] * Is pokes Smeggster

| No, its not just the hard drive. Most laps come with 256MB of ram, when XP takes about 200MB just to idle... it causes the computer to be rather unresponsive. Though, try adding more ram then it will be better. |

lol, that's one of the biggest reasons i don't run XP... or any windows for that matter.
my PowerBook came with 256 and i upped it to 384 and that was more than enough to run OS X and tons of other junk on top of it
since OS X is BSD based it ran really smoothly even though i didn't have killer hardware... Windows needs killer hardware but then when you have enough machine to handle it windows decides to throw conflicts at you =P

| lol, that is so true. Try getting the most exotic components to work nicely together is just searching for headaches. I can do with a mid range, below the top spec computer. Less headaches and less heat too. |

i'm in the process of building a mid-top range system... going to throw Gentoo on it of course
i *might* put Win2k on it for a bit of gaming... but most of my work will be *nix related
it's easier to adminser the A-S servers from a *nix system... *nix from *nix is a very much easier thing to do than *nix from Windoez ;P _________________ [13:42] * Is pokes Smeggster

I'm looking forward to selling the current machine and building myself a slightly below mid range A64. I can't afford going higher than 3000 w/ a decent video card.
Currently looking at a S939 3000, 6600GT, plenty hard drive space, NF4 board and hopefully some change left over to quiet the thing. |
