Hmm...
On the poll I put myself at semi-otaku.
On the list, I'd be closest to #5.
Although, really, I should be:
Pirate
These guys acquire most of their anime and manga from the internet. Whether it be they fan or collector, instead of bragging how many series they've watched, they brag how many CD-Rs and DVD-Rs they've used. They generally don't share their bounty and seldom buy the series they've saved on the discs. Although they're probably the most exposed to anime, and fully interact with anime fans online, they add little conusmer demand for the industry. They rarely, if ever attend conventions or any real gatherings.

i guess i would be a semi otaku
anime is part of my life but im not some crazed person who knows everything
sure i quote some lines from animes here and there and i cosplay when there's costume parties but i just dont have enough money to cover my room with anime memorabilia
If at best, I would be an otaku in the making, although I would probably be more of a closet dude at the moment. I can go as far as to dream up of ideas for fanfiction for my favorite animes as well as sing their songs before I go to sleep, but I guess that's about it.
P.S: An interesting poll...Hope this can continue on for a longer time than I expect.

I own a lot of DVDs (over 100) and have a lot of music, plus I work at the only anime convention I've been to (AnimeBoston... this year I'm an assistant executive). I guess I would say I'm very much into anime, but not like totally obsessed. I enjoy watching anime and talking about it, but I don't get totally into the behind-the-scenes stuff and really debate the details. I have other hobbies as well, but anime takes the lion's share.
Oh, and I had a letter published in Newtype-USA, that was kinda cool. They didn't tell me ahead of time, I just flipped through an issue and saw my name, surprise!!! _________________ GTX: Great Teacher Xeno... my daily blog about teaching in an elementary and middle school in Japan (see right-menu)

I'm a closet otaku. You won't know I'm an otaku till you visit my room. Because no body talks about anime, so there are no one to tell what I like.
I'll write about it, but I won't go around telling people I meet that I like anime. _________________ [IMG:258:200]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v435/ypark/sigs/3fsn.png[/img]
Semi-otaku, like anime just for the entertainment and because it is fun. Will not go so far as to cosplay, discuss "meanings" of a series or defend anime when people flame it (everyone has their own taste and opinion).

Well, I dont hide my obsession. I'm not a noob. And I am very passionate about my anime, manga, and video games, almost to the point of obsession. Therefore, I conclude that the closest description of me, based on your options, would be "otaku-king", though I'm not sure that I am at quite that level of otaku-ness.
I read an article in one of my Anime Insiders, and I can best be classified as either the "Hot Nerd" or the "Quiet Guy". Both fit me reasonable, with the "Hot Nerd" being just slightly closer because of its accurate description of my physical and psychological attributes, where "Quiet Guy" missed out on the Physical part. _________________ [IMG:500:100:5f9d323c6a]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v439/spender/Witchbladebanner3.jpg[/img:5f9d323c6a]
If you're out there, I'll find you.
well.... um.... i think i am consider a semi-otaku....
but i think i am more toward hardcore....
I don't look like it but every conversation i had is 95% about anime or manga.....
My only topics are about anime or manga.....(and food)
I must have at least an anime or a manga once per week or i can't live....
But i do not go to convos or stuffs like that....
Does that make me a 'quiet nerd'?

Anyway, I guess that sums me up also. My brother thinks the same way as AdmThrawn, that if you buy it and like it a lot you are of course an otaku (#5). I admit I have a BA Japanese Culture/Language degree (although that is my 2nd degree and completely unrelated to my 1st one) and I try to get as much Subbed as I can (I also can't stand Dubbs) and I admit that I do buy both imports of my manga and American versions of my anime/manga when available (only when my poor self has some money). I don't think of myself as Otaku although my brother keeps calling me that and it bothers me. I know the definition of Otaku and have met and seen enough of them to know that I don't match most of the attributes of being one. He won't listen to me and he doesn't really like much anime, only watches a few eps here and there of different shows I have downloaded or bought.
I have watched many shows and really got into it about 7 1/2 years ago. I remember having to watch nth generation tapes of shows that might be raw at the end of the series because the subbers weren't done and I really wanted to see the end. I have never been to an actual anime convention although I really want to go to A-kon at least once. I guess I might cosplay if I could find a character I could look like reasonably, otherwise no. I do own some stuff like posters and figures and most (about 80%) of my free time and money goes to anime/manga and I download all the time, but I don't act or wear anything that would say I like anime/manga in any way. I admit to singing along and getting anime OST songs and listeneing to them everyday (even at work ).
The thing is that I also read many other types of books, watch many types of movies and foreign dramas (Korean, Japanese, Chinese, etc.), and I like to learn very diverse subjects. So, NO. I don't think I'm an Otaku, more of a semi-serious fan. _________________ "There is a method to my madness and madness in my method."
