Am I the only one?
I started watching Anime in the early 70s. However, it was not until the early 90s that my attention to anime went full throttle. In the past decade my otaku “obsession” has been passed down to my children, a 17 yr old boy and a 13 yr old girl. We are now a family of otakus, less my wife, dog and parrot .
So, is there anyone out there like me?
For you younger otakus, did any of your parents influence you down the anime path? |

My mom bought me Doraemon manga when i got good result in test when i was young. Then, tv shows the anime version and that's how it started.
Some anime i watched contains a little ecchi and when i watch that kind of anime with my sisters, you guess what happen.. i got scold badly
So whenever my moms sees me watching anime or reading manga, one word would come out of her mouth : "You better not watch something dirty.." _________________ What's yours is mine, what's mine is still mine. |

Oh good, I'm not the only one. I started watching anime at 5 y/o, I'm only 23 now but my 4 y/o daughter brings up anime a lot. She's even picking up japanese.
She mainly focuses on Inuyasha, Cat Returns, Chobits, Pokemon and Kenshin. While I watch almost everything. She'll stand next to me and watch my computer (thats how I watch them). She can't understand or read them (subbed), but it doesn't seem to bother her at all.
It's really quite cute!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one out there who has "subconciously" influenced their childrens cartoon preferences. _________________ Please visit White Moon Creations, it's mainly Inuyasha but it has AMVs and Sims2 stuff as well. |

Well... For me, It all started when my friends father showed me Gundam Wing when I was a bit younger... maybe it wasn't my parents directly... but i think it still works... Escaflowne was a good one too...
Anyway... from there i become a person of mainstream... definately when the pokemon card craze went though... i was apart of the target consumers at the time... 8 years old i believe... and then i watched digimon... and hey that was a good show... until the third season... when they fused them with humans... then i stopped...
I moved on to manga and other anime... and i've been doing that for a while...
And now I'm 16 years old... and viola... I didn't turn out half bad.. >< I think.
I still have more of high school and college/ university. |

It's odd though, My mom loved the old anime when she was a kid, especially Kimba the White Lion. But now, she thinks that anime and manga are the craziest things in the world. Of course, she likes reality tv so she isn't really allowed to commenrt on the tv I watch. _________________ "I've got dibs on the first stone" |

My daughter is only 10 but she likes to watch Cardcaptor Sakura in Japanese. (They way it was meant to be!) She's seen El Hazard: The Wanderers, Fruits Basket (made her cry) and we're enjoying Kare Kano. Few more years before my son is old enough but I'm sure he'll enjoy Naruto and my Initial-D subs. No, you're far from alone. _________________ [IMG:119:90:283352dc7f]http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e36/Tank252ca/HoiHoiSanPointing.gif[/img:283352dc7f]Tank252ca |

I believe I'm one of those childrens that has been affected by older Otakus (I love you, my cousin), but if I ever get myself a family, I wouldn't want to influence them into animes or mangas. Probably because I don't want to be jealous of them being able to see more animes than I can? Then again, it would be nice to have a children in your family to talk about animes and mangas.
Oooh, I'm being so indecisive, I don't know what I want from my future-kids >.< . |

I'm 38 and I've been into anime for 13 years! I have a 13 year old daughter who is mad about Chobits, Digi Charat, and most other cute anime, she has a large anime and manga collection of her own, she also designs and draws her own manga characters!!
My son is 11 and he loves anime too, he's a big Bleach fan at the moment!
I have a 19 month old daughter and although she doesn't actually sit and watch the anime she loves to listen to the music and watch the opening titles!
Both the older children have watched subtitled anime from about 6 years old and they both have high reading levels at school.
So my being a huge anime fan has rubbed off on all my children, as it was never forced on them, they have just always enjoyed watching it |
