| I still suspect that I am probably the oldest otaku here. If not the oldest then at 47 I'm way up close to the top. Yeah, I used to watch RoboTech and Capt. Harlock and all those old Harmony Gold anime when they were first syndicated to the local UHF stations. I don't have any kids but I did convert my wife. "Watch the Anime, dear. Resistance is futile." |

| It seemed that anime just snuck up on me... It was like Ninja on my ass.... Flaming ninjas... with swords that rained pain and spending of money... |

Anime...Anime...Anime...Anime...
I swear I'm not a drone.
The parents don't seem too taken with the concept of anime,
then again,
they really didn't need a Japanese product subtitled into English...when it's not even their first language.
Lost in translation...
But, if there's older otakus,
there are only a few.
Anime hasn't come out but for several decades, after all. |

Huh? I watched anime in the 60's. And anime goes back to the silent movie days in Japan. That's a lot more than several decades. As for accessible anime on local TV, that started in the 70's in many areas.
You might be surprised how many older otakus there are.

As for the topic, our 5 year-old has grown up watching anime. He prefers watching subtitled or raw anime. And wants to learn Japanese. |

My dad watches anime, my mum, well she only watches ABC shows such as In Justice, Jeopardy, 20/20 and Grey's Anatomy. She hates cartoons, all kinds of them. My brother who died from the war in Iraq was the one who taught me how to watch animes, brought me to Japan and all that stuff. _________________ Life is full of truth, but I'd rather live in lies. | Effect? none what so ever. Generally kids just seem to view it as another cartoon. It's only when they get older do they realize just what it is, and if introduced at this point, they seem less likely to take to it. |
