Think of those as examples rather than a definitive list. Animés that most turn me on are those with stories that make me think. That's probably why Ghibli and sci-fi feature so prominantly in the list. But I like the fun stuff too, like El Hazard or FLCL.

Yeah, here it goes...

Anime that almost made it: Evangelion, Chobits, Love Hina, Lain

10. Sailor Moon - YAY-UH! No matter what people say, this is fun anime. It was one of the first anime I saw while I was a child. I along with my friends grew up with this anime. And it's one of the only anime shows that I can watched dubbed since I have been listening to them for over 10 years running

9. Karekano - this would have gotten a higher rating if the last half didn't feel incomplete. A good high school romance. I believed Hideaki Anno was able to capture teenage feelings beautifully. Let's not forget that there are a bunch of funny moments as well (UNO comes to mind)

8. Laputa/Castle in the Sky - the best Miyazaki film I have seen and perhaps even the best Ghibli film (still yet to watch that oh so popular Grave of the Fireflies). Great action, great story, fun characters. This all makes for good anime.

7. RahXephon - teenage boy controls huge robot to save the world. Where have I seen this before? Oh well, BONES was able to work within this concept and create something of great value. Perhaps the reason it tops all the other Boy/Robot series was Episode 19. Tugged on the heartstings a little there... =)

6. CardCaptor Sakura - Magical girl anime done right. Likeable heroine in the form of Sakura. Character development was great. It made me care for everyone involved. Li and Sakura are cute together. And Tomoyo rules all! No if's and's or buts about it.

5. Ah! My Goddess - another anime that holds a special place in my heart. Middle class starving student encounters a goddess and gets her to stay with him for the rest of his life. Wish it happened to me =P. Very nice love story. Urd and Skuld are comedy. And the movie was great as well.

4. Azumanga Daioh - this anime was able to capture the essence of high school. Jokes all around. So many random things that happen in this anime. That's exactly how high school life was for me, so I can just laugh at the stupidity that resembles my high school days. Let's not forget Chiyo, one of the cutest anime characters around.

3. Vision of Escaflowne - mecha/fantasy/romance/drama/fate all rolled up into this 26 episode masterpiece. Anime like this just makes me smile. The story was excellent, the pacing was top notch, characters were developed very well, and the music was oh so enjoyable.

2. Cowboy Bebop - A genre in itself. This anime enjoyed the top spot until the beginning of this year. Not many will complain about why (I think). Loved to watch the Bebop crew try so hard only to end up back where they started (for most of the part =P). I enjoyed every member of the Bebop crew for their little quirks and whatnot. Animation is beautiful, even to today's standards. Music was experimental, and therefore, all the more enjoyable to listen to. Bravo Yoko Kanno! Can't forget about the movie either... =)

1. Full Moon wo Sagashite - I've praised this show time and time again. I don't know what else to say... except that in my anime review, I meant to put episode 42. Nothing like typos =P. This is good drama. This is good comedy. This is good anime. Build up on this anime is so awesome, and the payoff is spectacular. Look foward to the last half of this anime. All the characters are lovable. Songs for this anime are great. I have all of them except for Rock n Roll Princess (I didn't like that one very much). Eternal Snow rox my sox (the song and the episode). Very enjoyable series and MY favorite anime of all time.
