I'd actually like to maybe see a series where they maybe actually dated or went out as a couple. I see a lot of the same formulaic Manga and Anime out there - it's all about "Gosh - how do I spend 3 years trying to ask this girl/boy out on a date?"

i agree with Plekto here, i would like to see a manga where a couple actually are a couple and go out and stuff, because they all seem to end the same way, they get together at the end and that is it, although good to that point, it would be interesting to see what happens next...

i wonder if Pastel will be different, and it would be nice if there was more to parallel.

None the less, i really enjoy reading them... can anyone recommend any other romance comedy? Thanks.

yes yes! i totally agree with that! i mean, it's good that a manga shows how tough the couple went thru and finally got together, but it's good to noe that what happens next to the couple. it will really be interesting to see what goes on after that. though it will be boring stuff, but it can be made that more complications happens to them and that they haf to brave them thru. it will be nice to see them REALLY TOGETHER rather than being shy about each other, which is kinda boring as always manga are the same.

Actually, it's much much better once they are a couple, as like in real life, there's the relationship itself, which has its ups and downs(Inuyasha shows this very well, for instance. Poor Kagome gets her heart practically torn out and stomped on in several episodes)and also a lot of normal potential problems and competition and so on.

You think that just because Manaka, for instance(Ichigo 100%) would become serious about one girl that the others wouldn't try to take him away? That's even more funny if done right. Tenchi Muyo had this sort of thing in it and it was incredible watching the two women backstab and fight with each other behind his back.

But, it's harder to write. I think many authors do their first couple of Mangas in the same formula/style because of this. Now, as for Pastel, I think it's different. First off, the two have already had relationships and dated in the past. This immediately pushes the story forwards to a more adult level. Infatuation and first kiss and so on are all in the past - this is about making up your mind and then moving forward with it - or at least trying to while the others likely have made up their mind about you as well. Lol. Pastel also seems more flexible about sex and so on, like in real life. There's a potential for something to eventually happen. Afterall, just because you are having sex with one woman doesn't mean you are destined to remain with that person forever. I don't know of more than a handful of people in real life that are married to the first person they had sex with. Life is truly messy. Relationships in Manga and Anime should be as well.

But most authors dodge it. I"s is a perfect example of this. There's no way that Izumi would have let him go that easy if the author had followed her personality/actions. She would have said and done *anything* at that point to be with him. If she needed to tell him she loved him she would have. If she had to run after him and beg him to marry her in front of everyone else she would have(!). I think it would have been more realistic to have him not merely confused and unsure but seriously conflicted. Then his moving away after he graduated - his growing apart from her slowly and his finding his real feelings and so on... It would have made for a much better story as he then has to make a choice at the end. I think it should have been Izumi myself that brought him back. Given her personality, and the way Iori went on with the concert, she'd have jumped at the opportunity to get him back. If the author had been true to her personality, that is.

That's why I like Pastel, actually, and think it will be better. The author seems to be true to each character's personalities and not cut corners or force the plot/do an endrun around the characters. If something happens, well, life gets messy since he's way too young to marry any of them. Then we get to see how he puts things back together.

having read both Ichigo and I"s, i know what you mean... i was a little dissappointed with the character development in I"s, as they pretty much stayed the same... however there were a few unexpected moments.. overall i liked it.. but this is the difference between Pastel, pastel is great because the characters have changed, even if only slightly noticeable, and i find that it is more interesting, always leaving questions...

however, when it comes to questions you can't go past Ichigo, every chapter i have at at least 5 questions going on what is going to happen and what stuff means etc, and i think that that level of 'mystery' is what makes the romance manga interesting, because you are not sure what to expect, and things happen spontaneaously form the smallest or laregest of events... however it is a little early to determine this for Pastel, but i have to say pastel is scoring high with me, especially after mugi meeting hinako in this last chapter..

sorry if it is a spoiler.... i didn't mean it to be

ya for the ex-girlfriend~
It would make it more interesting I would think, to see how it will turn out between Yuu and Mugi now, especially since Mugi still has feelings for Hinako it seems

i agree, and especially after Yuu gave that impression, i couldn't quite catch if it is a disappointed/shocked, or surprised/confued, etc expression. Form what i gathered she likes mugi, although she doesn't show it... i could be wrong, but i wonder what will happen, will she go over and smile and intordiuce herself or what will happen... hehehe, woot.. i can't wait to see, itreally is gettting more and more interesting.

well, in these romance stories, the main characters almost always like each other...they just never show it, or else it'll be like...the end...since it seems if they ever succeed in getting together, the story will end -_-

That's just timid writers' syndrome. Smile

If the creator is a total Otaku, then they probably have no idea how to really deal with serious relationships. The Author of Pastel seems to not be like this, though, so we're likely to see something actually happen.

Besides, the two of them getting together would only make it more interesting.

i agree with plekto... if they did get together it sure would prove more interesting, the possibilities to complications and so forth would be almost limitless.. and the beauty is the author can make anyone appear for any reason to stir the plot, which is usually a good thing, like a childhood friend who likes them, seems to usually be the one that always appears in these stories...

Exactly. More authors should watch a series like Ai Yori Aoshi and the sequel Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi. It's clear what their relationship is and the premise why they have to hide it is somewhat plausable. Of course, it leads to all sorts of trouble. Lol.

Very good writing and gosh - they actually tell each other they love each other and kiss and so on. Sex, too, at least once, in the second series, though that's not shown, but it doesn't take much to figure out from the events leading up to it. Not to mention the complexity of college-age relationships. They have their own schedules and can do their own things if they really want, like get home at 2am if they want, or stay in their room for three days or...

i just read chapter 22, and man was i surprised... Although i expected it i din't think it was going to happen, but Yuu did smile and do the intoduce... lol, and (trying not to spoil) what happened after is quite interesting... and at the end, what is about to happen, what choices will Mugi make.. Hinako's feelings are obvious by now.. hehe, keeps getting better.
