| I didn't like the first 3 eps... Very cliche, bland characters, and not nearly as good visually as most people claim. |

I'm in the can't wait category too.
I've enjoyed Satelites previous animation projects and this one proves that they are a company worthy of respect. (They walked away with honors for Original Video Animation at the Tokyo Anime Fair for one example.)
A lot of the fun in this series comes from it taking place before the first Macross. (And thus we get to see some tie-in's with characters we know later from the original Super Dimentional Fortress Macross.) While I wasn't lucky enough as a kid to grow up with Robotech or anything I must admit that the Macross franchise is right up there with Gundam for just how influential it has been on animation.
After just about wetting my pants after watching Macross Plus the first time(incredible incredible anime...) I am having a fun time with a return to the theme of robots music and war. That and we get a new look back on how things started and that in itself is an exciting aspect to such a classic series.
The wait though is probably the biggest bummer, but that is what you have to deal with when watching an OVA series I suppose. |

Yup, you definitely should know at least a bit about SDF Macross before watching this, because you'd know that
Just about every character who survive this series will die in that series :p (unless they are aboard the Macross of course)
But anyway, I personally didn't like Macross Plus as most people did (mainly because of the fact that the characters reminded me of elves--ugly ones at that), and Macross II and Macross 7 are both good shows but that's about it. But nevertheless, SDF Macross (while being very much influenced by Gundam) is generally credited with starting the whole "transorming mecha" trend in the 80's, and even Gundam's Yoshiyuki Tomino followed suit with Zeta Gundam... Plus it's probably the first mecha series to have hero mecha that's not unique... There's also the whole realistic/surrealistic touch to every Macross show which gives them a distinct feeling (I remember the first time when I came across a Zentradi in the original--I was just as shocked as the main character was, since I was really expecting a Gundam type setting)... So it definitely is influential.
But anyway, I love the visuals in this series, its definitely well done, and while the story doesn't really match those of the previous shows I guess it has enough mysticism to make up for it. So what can I say... I can't wait either. |

storyline was 'eehhhh... that's alright'
cg.. was... "HOLY MOFO!" (ignoring a long string of profanity)
I mainly watch it just for the action sequences.. :p but all things considered, this averages out to be a fairly decent anime. if rushed. but then again, it IS only a few episodes long. _________________

I am stunned by how beautiful the animation is. Not only is the CGI awsome, I really like the character design.
Yay for ass-kicking Valkery action!
I can not wait until this gets licesnsed. |

| I wonder why it takes so long for an episode to be released? I think it's already almost 2 years and the ova hasn't finished? |

it gets us hyped up. not to mention that each episode costs like 29485489 dollars, so they give us time to work back our money and then they'll take it again :p _________________

That's the way its been with these ultra-high budget OVAs lately... Another example of this is GONZO's Yukikaze, which is being released just as slowly as this one (1 ep every 6 months). Doing all these CG takes quite a bit of time I guess. |

The raw episode 4 is already out.
To me, it raises quite a lot of questions
like why Miss Evil show off her b00bs (yes I know there's a scar) to our hero Shin
especially in regards to the work of Hasford and Aeries in relation to Sara.
The fights though short and spaced through the episode are still brilliant though.
There is one stretch where I felt QA was bad. The faces of the characters then seemed badly drawn. |

Is that in US dollars?

Yea, I just saw the first DVD of Yukikaze, the audio and visuals of the dog fights are amazing man!!! Yea, I think the $$$ would end up like a movie $$$. |
