Yeah... being a med student means there's nothing to life other than medicine!
I've got this stupid presentation to do in front of my senior colleagues on Wednesday.
3 of them are professors and give lectures in Stroke, so I'm not looking forward to talking in front of some of the UK's leading experts in Stroke
Sweet-ass man.. wihich part of Spain are you visiting?
I've just been catching up with all my anime and review writing. I'm just so behind everything, but with TV shows like the newest season of 24 and heores, there never is enough time _________________ Click Here For My Anime List

I started to read a book (The Triune Brain in Evolution: Role in Paleocerebral Functions by Paul D. MacLean) that may (or may not) lead me to choose brain research instead of surgery. This was my original goal, but then I decided to choose a more practical field. So it's again surgery vs brain research. _________________ Dv

Well its a real shame. The anime community in Europe (especially in the UK) is particular bright.
But like you said Xris, it's perhaps a sign of laziness that there isn't anyone else coming here.
Well, as you might have seen in the news, the EU and the UK in particular have been hit hard with this recession. No point putting money in the bank now when interest rates are a shitty 0.5%. I'd get more returns from my money stealing acorns from squirrels than relying on my savings. Oh well... 21st century life eh?!?
I've not been doing much really. Just finished doing my Stroke rotation. Learned a lot of neurology but by god, it was depressing.
I'm currently in cardiology and it's perhaps the only Medical speciality that rivals surgery in terms of intensity.
Ah, the recession. Strangely interest rates stayed the same here. I don't really feel this recession's effects, or rather I didn't feel it until know, but the government has some nasty things planned.
You have it tough, don't you. I too am quite busy with the exams coming up.
I play GTA4 (and Battle Goddess Episode-0) on PC when I have some free time. I don't own a console. _________________ Dv

Im amazed that even with all that medical jargon you guys spout out I can actually understand the gist of it... I'm glad I took that pharmacy assistant course or else I would have been left out... hahaha...
If you're in the medical field, I don't think the recession will have that much effect on you... In my opinion it should have the opposite effect, there should be a boom in the medical field... why? well the recession has hit the other industries pretty bad right? therefore you get a lot of laid off people, a lot of them are pissed, a lot of them are sad a shat load of them are depressed... In some cases they need to seek medical attention to address these issues of depression and anger management... and thus we have more patients coming in to the hospital... now I don't know how that will pan out once it's time to pay up, i have no clue if it would be better if the medical system is privitized or handled by the govt... but in any case I know that the more patients we have the more secure our jobs become...
teren>> why would you be joining the armed forces by 2010? _________________

To be honest Xris, being in the healthcare sytem at this economic time is actually very promising.
People will remain sick and get depressed with losing their job. I met a nurse in mental health and in her very blunt manner she said 'business is booming'!
It's kind of depressing but if people didn't get sick or die, I wouldn't be in a job right now. I'm just fortunate that the healthcare system here is publicly funded by the taxpayers (like it is in Canada if I'm not mistaken).
Unless the government goes bankrupt, then fingers crossed I'll still get paid
Why 2010? Well, I had dreams of maybe signing up for a commission this August, but because I'd be halfway through the 2 year British equivalent of an 'Internship' I wouldn't be considered as a fully registered doctor... which is bullshit because once its August 2009, I'd be fully registered with my Medical Council (licenced practitioner etc).
So the Navy wants me to complete my 2 years first, then sign me up. That wouldn't happen till August 2010.
As to wanting to join... well, that's complicated and I'll explain in another post if you want me to. _________________ Click Here For My Anime List

teren>> let's be glad that humans have fragile bodies and that wether it be war or peace there is someone in need of medical attention... And so we are here to be at their service...
sure explain away... nothing much else to do here... hehehe _________________
I had a terrible two days. I've been transporting my parents from hospital to hospital, my father almost died yesterday and my mother is in a state of dehydration. And finals are coming up...
I too thought of joining the the army, but I can't really choose what I want to do there so I abandoned the idea. _________________ Dv

My god... I can't believe just how damn busy I've been this past month. Work has been such a joke.
The only thing of note I've done recently from an anime perspective is finally writing up 2 reviews for the Gunbuster animes.
@Dv
Jesus Christ. Is everything OK now? I hope your family is fine now.
@Xris
Well, long story really really short... I've always been fascinated even as a young boy, in becoming a soldier. Its not the sense of patriotism or duty really but its just a feeling of somehow contributing to society on a much larger and consequential way. Fine, even as a doc, I can help the people immediately around my town, but as a Medical Officer, I'm helping individuals willing to die to either protect their countries or the lives nof innocents around the world.
Plus, the opportunity to be paid to travel and see the world has always been very high on my agenda. I'd rate life experience as more important than career anytime.
Additionally my fellow colleagues and I are often shall we say 'unappreciated' by the greater part of the healthcare system here. They expect so much from you that it's not healthy nor sustainable for your mental well-being. But from I have gathered from the military, they take care of you and tend to reward you more only in terms of financial rewards but in general appreciation.
After all the personal and professional sacrifices I've made so far, is it not my right to finally pursue something that I have dreamt of doing?
Anyway, I'll strive to maintain a more regular presence here on A-S. It's such a shame that my reviews have taken such a hammering but I'll hopefully be back in business sometime soon _________________ Click Here For My Anime List
