Camparing to other anime and manga Ichigo's display of Ecchi scenes are I think just eye candy to the audiance but it is definitely not hentai since no actually intercourse or anything of that sort is shown
HA!!! Research finished. I studied and came up with this, look in encyclopedia on left hand side.
ecchi
"ecchi" is the Japanese pronunciation of the English letter "H", which in turn stands for "hentai"
It means anything perverted, overly sexual, etc. Always in a negative context. _________________ God must love stupid people, because he made so many of them.
A kiss blown is a kiss wasted, the only real kinda kiss is a kiss tasted.
Earlier in this thread there is mention that Ecchi is a toned down version of Hentai. wheras Hentai depicts actual intercourse and Ecchi is sort of perverse pictures that don't involve intercourse

But you all know that in Japanese, hentai doesn't really mean "sex" or anything like that right?

Well, at least not really.
Here's where I got that from:
yes, but i am pointing out that this topic is pointless now. Ecchi is just japanese for hentai.
No, It is not. Hentai is a JAPANESE word. There are no japanese words for japanese words. Because it doesn't make any sense.
Like I said before, the fact that Ecchi is just the H of hentai also means that it is "softer". In Ecchi you see some cleavage, and maybe some breasts and butts, but in Hentai you see some actual intercourse, sometimes in full detail. Hentai is very graphic, and I mean that it can be VERY graphic.
So Hentai>Ecchi.
Therefore Ichigo 100% is Ecchi, but NOT hentai.
Hentai stands for all-out perverted, while ecchi is only a "hint". Sometimes it's quite a blunt hint, but still a hint.
I shall reword my research, maybe we got wrong signals here.

Read it, it says that H is pronounced Ecchi, and H stands for hentai. They are the same thing. If you dont get it now my god you must be morons. It says it in plain text, check the encyclopedia under anime terms off to side bar.
NEW AND EXCITING UPDATE PEOPLE!!! I JUST CHECKED YANIME AND CH. 16 IS OUT AND TRANSLATED!!! YEAH!!! _________________ God must love stupid people, because he made so many of them.

And you still don't get it... Quote from Wikipedia:

Ecchi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The word ecchi is etymologically derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the letter H. In modern Japanese, the word is predominantly "sexual" in nature (akin to the English words dirty or naughty), carrying slightly negative connotations, but not necessarily "perverted" (which is usually reserved for the word hentai) unless it is being used to describe a person. Note that "ecchi" is a non-standard romanization — using Hepburn it would be "etchi", but this spelling is comparatively rare both in Japan and outside it.
Japanese usage
Ecchi as an adjective can be translated as lewd or sexy, while as a noun it can be translated as sexual intercourse, e.g. to do ecchi (ecchi suru) would mean to have sex. Interestingly, the word sekkusu is also used in Japan for sex, however Japanese native words for sex have fallen out of popular usage when describing this very basic act. For example the word koubi means sex, but usage is restricted mostly to the arena of biologists describing animal life.
Etymology
One theory states that ecchi derives from the first letter of the word hentai, however the two words have different meanings. The word hentai as a noun describes a sexually perverted person, but not sexual intercourse. It is not used as a verb, and when it is used as an adjective, it refers to something associated with perverts, e.g. hentai puree usually refers to BDSM sex play.
English usage
In English, the word is often used in the context of manga and anime. The term Ecchi is applied to anime or manga that has vague sexual content (such as skimpy clothing, partial or full nudity), but does not show sexual intercourse. However, ecchi has historically often been used as a synonym of hentai, presumably due to confusion of the two; thus it can carry different connotations than allowed for by the original Japanese. In recent years, however, its use by English-speakers has largely realigned with the Japanese meaning – although H (pronounced as the standard aitch) has become a completely separate term, inclusive of all of the above.
The ecchi art style is loosely comparable to pin-up girl artwork, as well provocative fantasy and comic book art in the United States and other countries. Typical features include:
* Clothing that outlines the shape of the breasts, nipples, and labia, suggesting tightness of clothing and arousal.
* Uniforms, costumes, or outfits that may be provocative, but are worn as everyday clothing by the character.
* Characters who are unaware of their sexuality, appear innocent or cheerful, or sly and mischievous.
* Clothing that is falling off or being pulled off, notably swimsuits.
* Upskirt panty shots and cleavage.
* Suggestive or phallic imagery, such as Japanese mayonnaise bottles.
* Exaggerated sexual attributes, often on normal or petite figures to give a sense of contrast. Especially used in doujinshi and fanart, where a character may appear more sexualized than normal.
* Cute or innocent character with obvious sexual appearance or clothing.

As you can see, if you say that ecchi=hentai, you are confused. Go ahead and enlighten yourself.
So, there you go. I rest my case.
