Yeah, the virus inserting itself into Saiga's DNA was fake....
...
And yes, I wrote this post as much to read my own words as to answer your question.
wow... i wish i had the time (or could type fast enough) to make posts like that one...
I only took chem up to Organic and AP Bio (buissness major, i.e. non science but I took it for FUN -_-), but I think what you said sounds *right*. the parts about aging-i.e.-cell degerneration/cancer and the impossible bonding centers of the virus are correct enough.
all I have to add is:
the scientist refers to a picture of DNA and kind of gives the viewer the impression that every single cell in Saiga's body has been infected by the SAME virus(remeber, he says that saiga can become a fish). How can ONE virus be able to enter and interact AND then even sucessfuly bond to the DNA (which as you mentioned is imposible, at least in the way they depicted it) of every single cell(cell variety in the human body is imense btw) in his body? Unless the virus can somehow change its molecular structure to be able to enter and replicate within ALL of Saiga's incredibly different cells. Or, he has been infected by a horde of viruses?
hmm....
They hint that the virus is being controled by Saiga's brain
but that doesn't help at all...
hmm...
were it to be a single virus than perhaps if it is man-made... which could be possible since we have sequenced the human genome.... but this would require computing power beyond imagination(quantum computer) to create a virus that would change in an exact, pre-meditated way per replication to move on an infect a different type of cell and replicate again with a new change in structure to enable it to infect another cell type and so forth.... thats F___g crazy... and in the end its still impossible since bonding to the DNA in the location shown is unlikey enough to be called impossible.... ok, there's no explanation.
uh, what was my point again?:
do i question the ninja techniques in Naruto? It would be crazy to try to scientificly explain shadow replication.... dark matter? string theory? hypercubes? why bother... just accept it.... its nijitsu! right?
lets just try to enjoy the series.... please... Damn, I remember trying to watch GANTZ with my physics friend... he kept on trying to find an explanation for the "teleportation"... it was like having to listen to the technical parts of Micheal Crichton's "Timeline".

Well episode 14 was a pretty exciting episode. However, things in it were just a little bit too predictable for me. Anyways, I thought it was cool how Saiga strapped a bunch of cameras all over his body since it made him into a walking explosive pack without him having to be suicidal.
Forgive me if im wrong, but I recall the Suitengu (or however u spell it) guy telling Saiga that the "substance" in the girls boold merely activated the virus in his DNA as he was a carrier. So perhaps the virus slowly copied its way around his body or perhaps he was born with it?
Well, episode 15 returns us to the Euphoria of the week style of story-telling, and it's probably the worst one at that. Did anyone else understand why the mermaid-woman just died for no apparent reason?
Euphorias can get erections, but they can't orgasm. He mentioned this back when Saiga and Kagura visited the inn. As for sexuality....Frankly, I think being a euphoria makes you ready and willing with anyone who meets your particular requirements. Although I wouldn't be surprised if Tsujidou did have a thing for Suitengu.
This week's euphoria definately was a "euphoria of the week". Earlier euphoria's at least got a couple of episodes. But I don't think she's the worst so far. That honor still falls on electro-priest. She just didn't get enough screen time. She probably would have been very interesting if she got a chance to be fully developed as a character.
Her death, as was stated above, was a result of being happy and it helps to support what I've been suspecting about Kagura. No matter who she meets, she seems to represent perfection. She has a perfect singing voice, perfect teeth, perfect skin, a perfect photo subject...Notice a theme? Maybe when she embraced the mermaid, she saw Kagura as the perfect representation of the mother-daughter bond she'd been seeking. It makes Kagura more scary to me.

Jeez, this show had so much potential (well, focusing on the visual aspects) but so far has only amounted to a stylistic monster-of-the-week show... its unexcusabely late in the series to still have for the most part 2-dimensional characters (god, no pun intended)...
That kind up of set might work for a series like Sousei no Aquarion (a sort of homage to giant robot anime) but fails miserably here...
Gonzo, like Bee-Train(part of production I.G.) seem to have a penchant for producing series that disguise the lack of true substance with flashy animation and confusing/needlessy complicated storylines...
its really hit or miss when your dealing with Gonzo originals... for example, Last Exile unlike Speed Grapher had a strong emotional center... It's regretable, but I might have to start grouping Speed Grapher with Samurai 7 and the rest of Gonzo's could-have-been-greats...
Well, Im like a new in this os post replies, but Speed Grapher is the best that i ever see in this year, is crude, bloody, sarcastic and good animation, meanwhile the history is different from others animes, well im gonna keeping watching

WHERE ARE ALL THE EPISODES? THEY HAVE RAWS UP TO 17 BUT NO SUBS
Well normally I would just advise you to be patient, but this issue has been quite an annoyance to me too. It seems to me that the group that still subs SG has SG on a very low priority. So they always fall behind on releasing SG, but keep up to date on some of their other projects (series that I don't follow and some sound plain stupid to me). Anyways, it just aggravates me how they can put such a low priority on an anime as good as SG and put a higher priority on worse animes that probably aren't even worth subbing. That's my two cents on the matter...

Yeah, I know what you mean. I actually thought that they had caught up on their releases when episode 15 came out and then there was also that 2 week airing pause for SG after episode 15. But then episode 16 aired, a week passed, no SG was subbed, episode 17 aired, and still no more SG subs... Well anyways for the sake of your sanity, let's hope that they release the episodes soon.
