Basilisk Synopsis and Reviews on Anime-Source
Starts on the 12th. Anyone know about the storyline? I'm curious for anything anyone knows besides the descript on the Spring 2005 Anime section.

Well, it is an anime adaptation of a manga adaptation of a popular novel.
I talked briefly about the manga here but it is pretty much the same as what I stated for the synopsis. I am up to Vol 4 now though.
Simply summarised, a story of two teams of shinobis slaughtering each other in the name of politics with a tale of sad romance set against it.

Sorry I didn't link the synopsis you wrote Yebyosh. Is the storyline progressing well in the manga or is it one of those that likes to meander around and maybe one day we'll understand why it was written in the first place. :p

For the manga, the storyline is fairly linear. Only some flashback sequences but everything is straightforward. Mostly it is about how each faction's shinobi gets killed one-by-one.
If I was Gonzo, I would go about making the battles more fluid by filling in more animation in-between the key frames as portrayed in the manga but... |

Knowing Gonzo there'll be a bunch of fan service and bouncing boobies instead of the great action. Ah well, I guess that's not a bad tradeoff.

Just watched a Chinese sub and I think it is reasonable to say that this is likely the first time that Gonzo gets an adaptation done right and should be an awesome result at the end.
The novel has been done for decades, so they finally can get an ending right if they follow it instead of pulling something out of their posterior. The manga has been completed, so they already have several key scenes drawn and fleshed out for them.
They added several extended scenes in the first episode that are missing from the manga. However I suspect it is likely they are taken from the novel. These flesh out the background of Ogen and Danjou more as well as letting us see the First Hattori Hanzo.
With fluid action ( check out the snake in the grass at the start ), ninja powers as have been envisioned for centuries in books and films ( instead of becoming some pokemon summoning battles like some show ), a tragic love story and political intrigue ( soon to come ), this story has lots of materials to play with. The first episode ended at the first chapter of the manga.
First time Gonzo will get it right likely, finally and hopefully they keep doing so. We still have Trinity Blood coming up ( another novel -> manga -> anime ) and I hope Gonzo remembers the lessons they applied in this first episode instead of repeating those awful adaptations they did in the past. |

| You guys make it sounds so good... I'll be keeping an eye for this series. But if GONZO is making this series, I wouldn't put my hopes up. |

im right, this anime is gonna surpass naruto and actually be really good. The first episode blew my mind as it is insanely crazy close to that of the SX OVA's |

I wonder if someone else will pick this up besides Eng-subs? |
