regarding Eng-Subs and IY&KF, can someone who is fluent (or knows enough) in japanese tell me which sub has more accurate translations?

i compared the two and the script translations are suprisingly different. the main idea can still be understood from both subs but the details given are signficantly different.

I think Yebyosh would probably know best since he followed the manga. At least I hope he can help since he clarified the whole hair deal. Very Happy

I havent seen the IY/KF sub, but I was pretty disappointed with the Eng-Sub version. I don't know nearly enough japanese to know about translation issues, but calling Hattori Hanzo "Hattori Hanjo" irritated me right off the bat. (They got it right at first, but then started calling him Hanjo.) I seem to remember a couple other instances where they used odd grammar or the subs didnt seem to sync with my (admittedly limited) knowledge of Japanese, but I cant remember any one specific instance off the top of my head.

I have no plans to watch either Eng-Sub or IY/KF versions but since I assume that "i can't even knit with this" line came from Eng-Sub, I would advise you to take IY/KF if they had the line close to "Looks like you are unable to play with your wires anymore".

Then again there are other lines to consider but according to SeekerDarksteel, Eng-Sub also flubbed quite a few other things.

I liked the first episode, but I'm with SB-T. The guy with the gigantic nutsack on his face, that I don't need. The ugly people in this series are seriously ugly. Shocked Laughing

Someone has gone through IY/KF's version elsewhere and it seems that it is worse than Eng-Sub even. I guess Eng-Sub and IY/KF are just terrible then.

There is talk that Anime-Kraze will be taking on this project. Their work on Otogizoushi was pretty good and I think their resident Japanese member runpsicat will be taking on the Basilisk project. If so, I recommend those waiting for a good translation to await Anime-Kraze's version.

thank god.... since its a period piece, I take it they use archaic japanese words/particles/idioms every once in a while (which would throw-off weak translators)

...too bad A-F didn't pick this one up though Crying or Very sad

I can't really speak about translation accuracy. The only thing that gets my goat is when the subtitled English is spelled wrong or other errors, (you're/your) that sort of thing. Proofread, people!
